I got my first beardie yesterday. He is so cute. He seems to like his basking spot alot, cause everytime I check on him he is just sitting there under the light. He did eat alot yesterday but hasnt eatten anything today. I got another water bowl cause the one I had, I thought was too high for him to get in to. I wanted to wait a week before I got the crickets, but Im not sure yet. Im trying to post pictures on here but my computer isnt letting me.
Its some stuff I got from petsmart, its what they were already feeding him. But I moisten it some. Im going to get some greens and other stuff later on today and see if he likes that better. I want to wait a week so he can get used to the new tank and everything before I put crickets in there, I dont want to stress him out to much. Im still trying to come up with a name for him. Its alittle harder then I thought hahaha
I wouldn't wait before putting crickets in there. Babies eat a lot of protein. Is he really tiny? I would get some pinhead crickets and feed him those often - twice a day? There are better people than me to give advice, but for a baby I would definitely go ahead and start feeding crickets - he will probably eat those a lot better than the greens right now. The only caution is to make sure that you don't leave uneaten crickets in the tank overnight as they might hurt him.
YOu can feed crix now and if you can get some reptiworms they are also great. Babies will eat 2 times a day they can eat between 40 per feeding depending. Feed them as many as they will eat in 15 mins then make sure you catch and put the crix away so they dont bite baby.
Or if you have a separate feeding tank then just take baby out and put baby back in the feeding tank when you do the next feeding.
Babies should be feed once in the morning bask for 1-2 hrs and then once at supper time with basking 1-2 hours.
Basking temp 105-110 cool side 85 .
Oh Crix should be the size that are between your beardies eyes in length thats how they are measures.
Congrats on your new beardie !!!!
get a cricket keeper. There are two sizes. There is one that is smaller, it has two black tubes, on on either size and holds about 100 crickets or so. The other one is larger and it has four black tubes two on each side. The great thing about these is that the crickets like to hide in the tubes so all you have to do is pull out one tube, put some calcium or vitamin powder in the tubes and shake it up a little to coat the crickets then shake them into the tank where you are feeding your baby.
Oh, yes. when the crickets are on the bottom of the holder, they are looking for food. You can feed them the good greens that the beardies should eat but won't eat much of at his age. They will eat a lot of them so don't feel you are wasting them by having to buy a lot of them.
