Hey everyone, I recently just bought this little guy whom I've named Brock from a reptile show. I'm new to beardies so as most of you can imagine I am RIDICULOUSLY nervous that I'm going to mess up. I've been researching up and feel like I have everything I need but I just don't know if I'm doing all of this correctly since I don't know much about my little guys behavior yet.
He's about a little over a month and and is a red trans tiger leatherback, he was some major stress lines but I assumed that was from moving into the new environment I have, it's only been about 2-3 days since I got him. So I assume he's adjusting still. I've been feeding him dubia and offering kale/collard greens to him (hasn't eaten any yet tho) every day. He also closes his eyes a lot and stays in one place for several minutes, is he just tired?
I'm kind of rambling I don't know what to say honestly... but I have a 150w heat lamp with a 10.0 reptisun UVB bulb combo. There's a pic attatched to show the temp is optimal, just a bit over 100 degrees f.
But yeah, any comments? How many dubia should I be feeding him? He's eaten around 10-15 a day so far, good? I sincerely hope so I might need some guidance.
Hi. What a cutie pie . I noticed you have the round gauges those are not accurate.I would get a temp gun or didigital with a probe and get the temp on the basking surface. The uvb you are using looks like a coil/compact. Those cause health problems like lethargy, eye and appetite issues. The most recommended uvbs on here are the reptisun 10.0 Tube or the Arcadia tubes.

Thank you so much, I just went out today and got him a 10.0 repitsun tube (15w), and a digital thermometer, you were right about the other one I had it was like 10 degrees off! I had bought a new 150w bulb because of that and it turns out it was too hot and the one I originally had was PERFECT. So now I'm using that one, it's staying between 100-110 now c:
I do have another question though, he seems to be staying in the same spot with his eyes closed a lot of the time, should I be worried? I have everything set up right what could be wrong?
His eyes might be bothering him from the coil bulb so it might take a few days for them to get back to normal. If they're not better in a few days you can use sterile saline eye drops that are the plain kind. Hopefully his eyes will get better soon.
