We never expected to get another dragon, but our neighbours next door wanted to give away Cleo, as he was called. We'd babysat him before, he's such a sweetheart. We nicknamed him Velcro because when he snuggles he never wants to go back to his viv, he hangs on as if he's made out of velcro.

So here he is. Today was his first day with us. He ate 13 supers and ate some squash, not bad for the first day he was here. He's only in a 30 gallon tank, which will be ok for now. He's 18" long but weighs only 200g. We figure he's probably 2 yrs old. Our neighbours rescued him last fall, they found him and a female (which they named Puff) on Craig's list. They were in a 30 gallon dirty tank, with sand and a huge log that took up 1/2 the space in the tank. Leo was at the bottom, he was sooooo skinny. He's gained weight, but never got the attention he deserved. I took some pics today, but will take more tomorrow. I think he remembers our place as didn't get stressed as I expected. No stress marks at all. When we let him run around the living room, he noticed our girls and immediate black beard, so his hormones are working!

He had a bath this morning, had a big poop, no smell, so not worried about parasites.

So here are a few pics, he's a yellow & dark gray, light gray colour.

Under the communal power sun in the living room:

Discovering there are girls in those tanks up above, he has a great black beard for such a skinny boy:

On the couch, he's got a pretty diamond pattern on his back:

Yep, he's 22" long with a tail nip and at last weigh in he was 816g. I think he weighs more now, but as my scale is broken, I have to take him to the pet shop to be weighed. So maybe next Sunday I'll take him and Titan to be weighed. He's always been huge, since he was about 10 mo old he looked like an adult and he just grew again from there, sideways. He doesn't look his weight, but he's really heavy when it comes to snuggles on my shoulders

I looked at the pics of Leo and Gabriel for awhile and noticed (or so it seemed to me) that Leo seemed to be wondering what Gabriel was up to. He found out when Gabriel decided to use him as a bed.

Gabriel is so funny, you never know what he's going to do, but never a black beard, bob or anything like that. Leo was wary because he's been attacked by Didi and was wondering with Gabriel would do.

Had another bout with Leo yesterday morning, didn't realize he'd been drinking from his bath & had to resuscitate him again, a few mintues before I had to leave for work. So he'll be seeing the vet. What he does is he leaves the water in his mouth, he doesn't swallow it all, so it trickles into his lung & he stops breathing. He needs the baths, but I'm going to hold off for awhile to see if he feels better. Driving me nuts, thinking I'm going to lose him every time he does this :( Drives me nuts :banghead:

But he's fine now, so will stop baths for him for awhile. Maybe put him in a very small amount of water and watch him every second to prevent him drinking? I'll have to think on that.

Leo! Stop that! :( :(
I made a makeshift bathtub for Brick last night out of a small shallow Tupperware container. I made sure his vent was submerged but kept his tail-sutures out of the water (luckily he sat still for about half an hour so I'm hoping he absorbed at least a little water). His back feet & legs were in the water but front feet & legs were on his basking spot.
Would something like that work?

wow - over 800 grams?? I'm jealous!! He must be a GERMAN GIANT huh??? My boys fluctuate so much - they were underweight when I rescued them, I fattened them up but they go back and forth in the high 400s to low 600s. They go through phases and it drives me nuts!!! (I definitely think their growth was stunted because they had been housed together in a tank that was too small for even one of them!!) They are only around 17" long.

When I was a kid my brother had a HUGE dragon - she was easily 24" and quite the chub! We didn't ever weigh her though.

But I also wanted to say - I don't know how you deal with all those males!! My 2 HATE each other and would easily fight to the death if given the chance. I'm so jealous!! There is no baths together, no exercising on the floor together etc.

:)

It is terrifying because he just holds that water in his mouth & stops breathing. It's the 6th time he's done this this year, so it's not every bath (thank goodness). He's seeing the vet in a couple of week, just have to give my car a tune-up first (that can't wait or I won't have a running car, not good) and Rubio & Titan are going, too. Rubio to have his mouth checked and Titan for a wellness checkup. You know, Leo has never done this before, I've had him since Feb/10 and he's never had any issues of any sort. This started in Jan this year but nothing is different, so I can only figure that something is different with him. Scares me to death every time & this time it was just as I was getting ready for work, too.

This morning it was Rubio, somehow he'd gotten himself covered in poop & I didn't discover it until almost leaving time, so into the bath, clean the viv (it will get a deep clean this weekend) and back into his tank. Luckily there is a bus another couple of blocks away that leaves 10 min after my usual bus, so I wasn't late for work  What a couple of mornings these have been  Never a dull moment over here

As for having only boys, after Sweetie died after getting so sick from having so many infertile egg clutches, I decided never to get another girl, ever. So that's how I've ended up with 6 males. Only Didi fights with everyone, so he's segregated, but I've had 3 out at the same time without any problems. Mind you I'm standing right over them at the time & they're not out for long either.

Rubio was a rescue at 3 mo old, he was an ordinary citrus dragon until he was about 10 mo old, then he just GREW and GREW. He ended up being 22" long with a tail nip, so not sure how long he really is, but he is 10 1/2" from snout to vent, which is 2 1/2" longer than any other dragon I've had. Very long bodied. Even though he's over 800g, he's not overweight, in fact sometimes he looks kind of skinny. He doesn't have a big appetite either. He's not a german giant either, just a really big dragon. The pics don't do him justice, it's when you see him in person you realize how really long he is. He's 3 1/2" across the bottom of his face, where the beard is the widest & has a great smile! He's also my sun loving dragon and will spend hours out on the balcony in the sun if I'd let him :D

So I'm off to bed, long day, will be so glad when tomorrow is done & work is finished. Then party time at my mom's!

He is Liz, and he was only 24g as a 3 mo old baby, so where the growth came from, I don't know. Right now he's miserable, he's shedding part of his back & beard and I think both back feet. When he gets close to the shed coming off, which takes forever, he hides in his hide, I have to pull him out in the am to warm up  Guess he thinks if he hides, it'll go away

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
