I feel silly asking this, but is nail trimming ever necessary? My little guy, Petri (approx. 7 mos.) likes to get out of his enclosure and run around sometimes, but on our hard wood floors he looks like Bambi on Ice!
He is also scratching me a lot. Not on purpose, but his nails have just gotten super long.
If people don't trim nails, is there something I can put in his enclosure to help him file his nails naturally?
Those nails are pretty sharp, like 10 needles and can do a bit damage to the skink if not worn down by climbing hard/rough surfaces, digging / scratching in sand, or trimmed.
A rough concrete paver or bit of natural sandstone will do a great job at waring down the nails.
you only need to take a mm or 2 or 3 off the ends each nail, my little beardies Peppa and Toothless were very calm and relaxed the entire time when I did their nails for the first time. Gentle does it as well lots of petting between nails.
If lizard pulls foot away , it's fealt it and didn't like it.
