when feeding large hornworms my bearded dragon bite the end of the horn worms and now 1/4 of the worm is in its mouth and he just sits there for a few second digesting it, than after a few second he just and sucks the worm in a little more so now 2/4 of the worm is in its mouth and does the same thing. He sits there kinda digest the parts in his mouth and than swallows 3/4 of it and after waiting and digesting that 3/4 were only 1/4 is sticking out of his mouth and finally swallows the whole thing.
I've seen my do that sometimes. I dunno why they do it 😕

no but Im saying that's him eating slowly so should he be fine with large insects because you said that if they eat slowly and chew they should be fine.
The key is chewing. As long as he will chew the bigger bugs up you can offer them.

I know I'm jumping in on the middle of a conversation, but, in my opinion, I would stick with smaller bugs. That way there is no chance of feeding a beg that is potentially too big. Mirage is perfectly fine with small bugs. I say this because at one point I had given him a larger bug and for whatever reason he decided not to chew. It really scared me because I thought he was choaking. Do whatever you think is best for your beardie and the situation you are in. @Bearded dragon lover @xp29

The downside to the smaller bugs it that it takes more to make a meal. Lucy will go through 3 containers of the small dubias in 7 or 8 days now. It's the same price for small or medium. It would take her 4 or 5 weeks to go through 3 containers of the medium. (The reason for 3 containers is they are buy 2 get one free where I get mine) I'll be trying her on medium next time I get bugs. If she slows down and chews it will be a permanent change.

I guess I should also take into consideration that I have my own dubia colony, so, I haven't bought roaches in quite a while. I buy mealworms in bulk on morphmarket, so they last a long time. Hornworms are only bought every couple months and are a treat. So, I suppose it would be different for those who have to buy their roaches. I can just pluck out the ones that I feel are the right size.

If I had more time to dedicate to it I'd start a colony. It would be much cheaper in theclong run.

I think its funny because in my research I saw that colonies were very involved. I disagree.
I clean out the tub once a week and give them water crystals and dubia dust 1-2 times a week.

i don't do anything in particular to take care of our dubia colony. i pay no attention to heat, lighting, anything like that. they get whatever salad sir henry doesn't finish at the end of the day.

I have a question why does my bearded dragon flinch when bugs get too close to his face. I feed him and sometimes I just hold it at the wrong angle and he just flinches and scoots backwards and I don't understand why

You've probably approached him from an area that he doesn't see well and surprised him. Beardies don't see well from straight ahead. Often times they will run straight into wall and such.

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?

Hey! We’re the same age! That’s cool!
Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
