Correct, and watch out that they do not talk you into a recently introduced "Reptasun" by Fluker's, instead the reliable Reptisun by ZooMed. I have not heard anything about the Fluker light yet, but their track record is dismal. The light fixtures are fine, but stay away from their bulbs.
If you go with a linear Fluorescent then it generally should be changed out every 4-6mos.Make sure its linear ok?Do not go with a coil or compact as they can be VERY harmful to your beardie.
Hi Barb, what a lovely story !
I'll just post that you change out florescent Suns every 5-6 months when the output starts degrading. You can also look into getting a Trex or Mega Ray Mercury Bapor Bulb. These will last up to 11-13 months, and not only do they give uVB, but heat as well !.
Janie !
Hello! I just read your story! Im so very glad you took him home! We just took a rescue from a petshop as well. I cried reading your story it sounds so much like our experance with Zero. We left him at the petstore but just couldnt leave him there and went back for him withen 20 mins with kids in toe! Im sure hes going to get all the love he can handle from you! Godbless you for getting him out of there!
I thought I'd give a quick update. Frank is doing great!
He is just about done with a huge shed and surprise surprise his head is a beautiful bright yellow.
He still doesn't much care to be picked up, but he isn't bothered with my hands in there and often lets me pet him just a bit.
As long as he doesn't panic with my hands near him, and I can handle him when necessary, I'm alright with the idea he doesn't want to be handled too much. He may get better, he may not. It's ok if he doesn't.
He loves soaking in a bath and is eating more and more of his vegies.
I changed out his sifted play sand for tiles. It was just too messy. He likes lounging in the water dish and mix that with sand and it's no good. I just did that today and he doesn't seem to bothered with the changes.
Thanks again for all the help and for everyone's contribution to this site. Frank will be much healthier and happier because of you.
Frank has settled in nicely. He gained lots of weight and is getting a nice belly on him. He doesn't put up too much fuss when I pick him up anymore. He doesn't seem to like being held, but will tolerate me.
He LOVES the squash baby food. Who would have thought?? lol
In that picture, your Frank looks like my Taj did last night. I had to hold and hand feed him squash baby food; the first veggies he has had since Sunday.
