Hello all! I am new to this board and to dragon owning. I got my first 6 month old beardie from a pretty noisy animal filled home,so he was very timid when I brought him home. I have had him for 2 month now and he has adjusted well and now let's me handle him daily.
I am posting here to ask for help with the setup that was given to me, it is huge 140G enclosure. I bought a new UVB and and a daylight bulb I recently replaced basking bulb. I left his old UVB bulb in there as well, for additional heat and light. I'm hoping I figure out how to post pics up for some help and feedback on the setup, tips and ideas would be appreciated.
What are the surface temperature readings around the tank? You want the basking area to be around 100-105 or so with a gradient down to 75-80 on the cool side of the tank.
Thanks for reply Cooper. My basking log is 106, then over on his other log is 86 the floor of cold side is 82 with the floor on the hot being 94.
So you say it would be better to have the UVB tube light mounted inside the tank with him rather then the 2 coil lamps? Is the basking bulb and daytime bulb combo a suficent source of his UVA and heat?
On a side note I tend to make him some of the decor and background out of foam board, acrylic paint and grout coated with a sealer. It seems safe and commonly done, do you have any opinion of doing this for the enclosure?
The T5 can sit on top of the tank. The temp gradient you have is pretty good so the basking bulbs you're using should be OK. The foam/grout furniture is fairly popular but I don't use it in my tank. If you like it, go for it though.
