I just got Rancor about a month ago, 'rescued' him from a guy on craigslist. He is about a year and a half and in pretty good shape for everything that was wrong with his upbringing and setup from what i've read on here. (Sand substrate, no UVB bulbs, no greens in his diet at all, and superworms everyday) But i've now got a uvb bulb in and tile substrate and fresh greens in everyday, as well as phoenix(which he doesn't like), and hornworms(which he loves). I Feel like i'm doing alright for a nOOb. I now spend my extra dollars making him more comfortable and every spare moment reading the forums on here to learn more or watching him run around my room. i'm a bit obsessed to say the least. He has been a bit slow on eating, and spends the greater portion of the day 'glass dancing' and running frantically around his viv like a chicken with his head cut off. is that normal for a new guy adjusting to his surroundings? Well i look forward to talking with everyone more!
Cute! Rancor's situation sounds alot like my beardie Zeke's. I got Zeke off of Craigslist as well from a girl who couldn't keep him anymore because she was going off to college. He's about a year old, she wasn't exactly sure. He had no UVB lighting, was on crushed walnut shells for a substrate and she wasn't feeding him enough, he was too skinny. She was also using a high watt heat emitting bulb at night as well so his tank was kept too hot overnight.
I've had Zeke a little over a month now and he's doing alot better. He's put on some weight and looks wonderful. He's got such a great personality. (I never thought I would say that about a reptile! )
He's a very sweet dragon. He's my first reptile. I've always had pets, but mostly one's with fur. I've never had a bearded dragon before. It's been a great learning experience!
Good luck with Rancor. It sounds like he's in a much better home.
