Hi
My name is Rosanne. I use to post here regularly a few years ago. I need help. I have a female beardie that I bought in Oct. 31, 2014. I also have two males, Draco and Spike, that she's never had physical contact with. My sister walked by the tank just now and she's laid 10 eggs. Should I keep the eggs or what. Unless something happened at the store, even though she had her own tank there, I don't think the eggs are fertile. What should I do?? Please help asap. Thanks
Hi Rosanne...I do remember you. those eggs are almost certainly infertile, even if they look plump....but most inferts. look like half filled water balloons. Are they plump or saggy ? If they look like they're possibly fertile [ only because a dragon can mate + store sperm, but it's highly unlikely in her case ] but just to be sure you can set them up in a tupperware type container with about 2-3 " of damp sand, coco fiber or vermiculite, whatever you have on hand, or a mix of those. Make about 12-16 holes in the lid. Make an indentation in the sand/soil with your thumb for each egg so that it's only showing halfway, laid lengthwise. After about a week, use a small penlight in a dark room to " candle " them. You can actually pick the eggs up as long as you lay them back down the exact way they were laying. If they are fertile, you will see small veins branching out in the egg. Inferts. won't have these. You can always keep them that way for a bit longer if you're unsure....but if they are floppy as I described or if they obviously start going bad, just toss them out.
