my enclosure please let me know if this looks ok

i just got this enclosure from someone rehoming there bearded dragon. he is very mean and dosnt like to be picked up.i posted that in another section.but iam asking to see if this enclosure is ok,or if theres something else he needs. the heat rock is not ever plugged in after i got him. they said he has had it since he was young and never burned him,but iam not taking a chance so i turned it off. but other than that. hes just very unhappy and iam trying to figure out why.thanks,bobby any and all replys are welcome

His tank looks a little dark. Is that just the picture?
Does he have a bright white basking light? They tend to be happier with a bright viv. Maybe he would like something else to climb on?

thanks for the reply . the heat lamp is aexo-terra red heat lamp. and the uvb is a 10.0
i used to use just a white regular light in my last one,but this one came with it. the picture is a little darker than the tank is., i think its to boring for him.
he dosnt have alot to do in there does he. maybe ill go look for something today.

i also put a post in feeding section on him if you wouldnt mind looking at.thanks,bobby

I would switch to a regular household bulb that is bright white. It may cheer him up some. It is also better for their eyes.

ima hafta agree. There is little stimulation in this enclosure. They like to run, jump, climb all the time. Also, pet him and hold him everyday, sometimes they just hafta warm up to you. And being cold blooded makes it harder (hardy har har)

ok thanks alot. the guy at my reptile shop,{not petsmart or petco} he runs a exotic reptile shop. he has normal reptiles to but this guy knows alot about them,iam lucky to have him near. its called the tye dyed iguana in illinois.
anyways he said that if i bring up my uvb they will test it for free. he said that if he isnt getting his uvb ,that also might be why hes unhappy. iam going to feed him now. thanks for the replys.

Is that a 40 gallon breeder tank? I am considering using one for Calypso, but want to see an adult beardie in one first. This will be only until I can get a front opening one.

looks like crushed walnut in there, from what i heard its not good to have in there, causes impaction.

yeah iv heard about that. i told the guy at the reptile shop that same thing. then he showed me a 5 year old bearded dragon. hes been in it for years. never a problem. but iam going to be taking it out and go to shelf liner or tile.just to be safe. thanks for your advise

yea things that jump out at me right away are the substrate and the red bulb. The red bulbs seem to aggitate them and do little good. I agree with the other posters here in changing the walnut shell and getting a bright white bulb in there and get his temps to about 105. I dont know what they are now but he should start moving around with those few changes.

just curious but you might not have the right uvb bulb . you need a repti-sun 10.0 these bulbs are the only ones that actually put out the right amounts of uva and uvb . my vet said it has to be the repti-sun one and not the repta sun...this could be one reason why he is not happy...also putting in tile is a great idea because walnut will cause impactions i have seen it happen. you can also use washed ans sifted playsand as well. but if you work with you beardie take him out slowly and play with him alot he will become very sweet. i once had a female beardie that was mean but i worked with her and now she is a sweet heart 2 year old kids hold her all the time ...hope this info helps and congrats on your beardie

ps...........also heat rocks r very very bad never use it but you can leave it in his room (unplugged or cut the cord off) and he can still climb on it

i think thats the one you are talking about. from what i heard from my reptile guy these are the best ones to use. the walnut shell will be coming out. when i get my tile. he moves around alot.loves superworms and cickets. veggies all that. he digs.very powerful and energy level is sky high. but when i pick him up he lashes out and tries his hardest to bit me ,but cant get his head turned around enough. if i put anything near his mouth he takes a bit out of it,i tested him with my shirt.he nailed it.as if he was trying to kill something hahaha. iam gonna keep working with him though.thanks,bobby

yeah i was holding him and he tries for like 3 full minutes non stop,side to side trying to bit me. i was thinking is there a video section maybe i can take a video of him and post it. this guy is nuts. my others never done this before. and yes he nailed my shirt like 5 times and twist his head trying to rip off a part.lol hes totaly out of control. thanks for the replys.
