I have a female with a clutch of eggs according to the vet. For several day she would glass surf and I built her a lay box with sand but when I put her in there she isn't interested so I put a Tupperware with sand in her tank where she digs and she only pooped in it. I have moved her log into the lay box, moved it to a quiet room and left her alone all day, moving her to her tank to sleep since she isn't digging either place. She is still eating live food every other day and is offered salads but shes not real interested and is taking oxbow critical care to get her nutrition up after some swollen limbs. She has now stopped digging and is only laying down all day, but if I put her down on the ground she can still walk on all fours. I haven't seen her poo in 2 days even after a bath. She has had a black beard today all day and is very thirsty. I don't know if I'm stressing her, moving her in and out at night and that's why she isn't digging. Do you leave her overnight in her lay box? This is her first clutch and my first dragon. She is 13 months old.
Hi there, did the vet take an xray and can you post it here ? Was your dragon mated or are these infertile ? If she is lethargic + blackbearding she may be in distress. Can you post pics of her + her laybox ? And yes, she may be stressed from being moved, so just clean up the tupperware laybox + put more sand in it. Make sure it's damp and keep the lid on but cut a hole in the corner of the lid for access. The tupperware box should be like a cave, not an open box.
If your vet is certain that there are fully developed eggs + she won't lay them she may need a shot of oxytocin if the eggs are in the oviduct.
These are infertile eggs. The vet didn't give me a copy of the xray but said for sure she had eggs. I think they were developing still when she was xrayed. My vet said it may be two to three weeks before she laid. It has been a month since she went to the vet and she only glass surfed for a couple of days. After I posted this last night I took her out of her box and gave her a bath, hoping it would stimulate her to go to the bathroom but it did not. She soaked about five minutes and then tried to jump out of her wash tub. I wrapped her up in a towel and put her in her tank. She jumped down and went to munching on her salad, walking around for about five minutes before going back to her basking spot. I left her in her tank today before I went to work. I will put a lid on her box at lunch and take photos of her and her lay box, I only had an open tupperware area of sand in her tank because I was hoping if she dug there, I could move her to her lay box which is a big 20 gallon tub with play sand and her hiding log in the middle of it. I'll take photos of both. I may be worrying over nothing, I do know she has a pretty developed clutch though, her weight has gone from 8 ounces to 10 and a half. I'll post pictures at lunch.
These are photos of her today. I gave her a nice long soak and finally after some pereneal massages she pooped a massive amount and cleared an obvious inaction I think from the sand in her lay box. This is her tank and I have a small Tupperware of sand in it now and am planning on putting a lid on it. Hopefully she will lay now.
