Liza is about 6, and she is very lazy. She refuses to eat anything except for mealworms, and occasionally lettuce. I try to feed her other things but she won't eat it. Its been this way for years. She's relatively fat, and she spends days in the shady side of her tank, laying with her head against the glass. When I tank her out to play in my room, all she does is goes under my bed and sleeps.
I feel bad because I feel like she is unhappy, but I don't know what to do to get her to eat healthier.
Are you supplementing her with Calcium and multivitamins? They can boost the energy. Maybe you already have the list of things you can try but here it is in case you don't. http://www.beautifuldragons.com/Nutrition.html
You stated she is eating lettuce? What type/types?
What other type of feeders have you tried? we may be able to suggest something else
Also going over your setup with us may help. Have you made changes lately? How long has Liza been like this?
If you wanna give the additional information I'm sure we can get Liza happy again
Can you go over your setup? (uvb ( and uvb age), tank size, temps, do you use calcium supplements/miltivitamins. etc). 6 years is a good age but it is a bit strange that she has seemed lazy for a long time. Have you ever had a fecal done? It could also be brumation or shedding? Hopefully someone else can help as well.
I have the calcium and multivitamin supplements, but when I put them on her food it turns her off to it.
She used to eat crickets, now she doesn't chase them. I've tried superworms in the past (which she'll eat), but mainly just mealworms for the past couple years (i realize now that this isn't a good staple).
She eats mostly romaine lettuce, or any other dark colored lettuces. Mealworms has been her main diet over the years, though.
I believe my tank is something like 3ft x 1ft, and 18inches tall, but i'd have to double check.
The temperatures are correct, and the UVB is fairly new. I can get specifications on that too.
She's been on and off lazy since she was young. I had fecal done once when she was maybe 1, which resulted in me giving her medicines for a month or two.
She Is just finishing shedding right now.
I feel that if she'd just eat more vegetables, and if she'd chase crickets, she'd be a lot happier and healthier! But she won't
Were u able to find some new things of the food list to try? I wasted a lot of stuff but was well worth it when I would finally find something my picky eaters would take.
Yes actually. So far I've tried peas and mustard greens. She didn't take them. Also I bought some crickets, and am planning on trying them out tomorrow.
I guess i'll just keep on trying new things
