hi i’m new here, nice to meet y’all, im vinny! i have a bearded dragon about ~4 months old and his name is toothless. he used to be extremely comfortable with me, allowing me to hold him and carry him around but all of sudden he’s skittish? he’s also suddenly hiding under his rock a lot more which wasn’t usual to him before and i’m not sure why :(. he jumps off of my hand and runs all over the place and i can’t seem to understand his stress. any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If something in his environment changed (a new pet, furniture rearranged, more noise, ect) that can stress them. Also reaching for them from above can do it. Even something like being able to see his reflection on the glass can cause stress for them.

thank you for responding! i’ve put some thought into it and could be because of my little sister reaching in to mess with him while im gone so ill see if that’s related! he just had a bath and seems to be okay but ill definitely try to quiet his surroundings!

I agree that if a smaller child is reaching in they can be more rough or " chasing " with their hand. Little children also don't know how easy it is to hurt a very tiny [ compared to us ] animal. It's not about reaching in from above, they are used to that from the time they are hatchlings.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
