I came home last Wednesday and found spike(my dragon who is 6) laying weird. His eye lids were swollen shut and he was unresponsive. I took him to the vet and he ran some blood work. He said that spike had either a kidney failure or a kidney infection. So he started us on medicine(hoping for the best ). He has done a 180 degree turn since but when I got home today he wasn't acting the same again. When I went to give him his bath and medicine he bloated up real big (beard and belly) and threw a hissy fit and kept trying to bite down on the dropper while I was giving his medicine. He also would not stay in the bath water. He would freak out like it was hurting him but it's was alittle hotter than like warm. He also has recently (in the past two days started having "hiccups" after his baths/feeding/drinking/medicating. He has also started sleeping while standing which he has never done. He has also not gained his appetite back since last week i have been force feeding him baby food. My question is should I be alarmed with his "new" behavior or is it a sign that the infection spread or worse?
Hi,
Did he used to like the bath? Maybe he is associating bath with meds. He may not like the taste of them, Try to give his meds on your lap and sometimes wrapping him up in a towel will help control him. Other things to consider are, what kind of UVB light are you useing, and what kind heat lamp and bulb, what is the temps on basking side and temps on cool side, what kind of thermometer are you useing, and if you just got him he will need time to adjust. I can let you know if you set up is proper as soon as you answer all the questions.

Well I wouldn't say he loved it but would enjoy once I got him in the water. As for the UVB light it's a 10. Im using a standard heat lamp that I picked up from my local pet store with a 100 watt bulb(is at about 85%power on the dial.I'm not sure of the temperature because he never felt cold and he rarely opened his mouth to vent some of the heat. I am going to pick up a thermometer tomorrow. I have had him since he hatched
I started seeing them the day after we took him to the vet. And they jut started getting worse from there. He is still on his medicine too. Is there anything else I should be doing beside medicine, bathing, feeding?
I would talk to your vet about that. URI is pretty serious and needs immediate treatment. It sounds a lot
Like it, if it is then lay off the baths. It would only make it worse.
