Mouth Infection

My dragon is having mouth infection

We have visited vet last Wed, vet prescribed:

1. antibiotics med
2. anti-inflammation med
3. mouth wash (something like listerine dilute with water)

Already on med for 6 days, tmr will be 7th and the maximum vet advice to take

For mouth wash, we did it for 5 days, but I'm very worried if we did it right because everyday after wash he will show movement like hiccup and swallow, beard and tail dark to the max. There's one day I heard sound like hissing but I'm not sure.

I'm very worried did he swallow the mouth wash solution, so we stopped today

But his mouth is still look very bad, so we had no choice but to apply betadine on the affected area, and diluted betadine on the rest of the gums

His mouth keep having a lot of saliva (not sure saliva or mucus). I think so long his mouth not dry the infection is not cleared

So my question is except the medication and betadine, is there anything else I can do to improve the situation?

Is there method can teach me to clear his saliva? I keep feeling it is the issue that stopping the improvement

We plan to bring him back to vet on coming Wed

I see some excess saliva but no infection. What did you think was infected ? A gum infection would show red, irritated gums of cheesy build up on the teeth.
Excess saliva can be present at times in any animal at times, especially after eating , drinking or being given meds.

It looks like there is some buildup, but I don't see signs of infection in the photos. I would keep offering hard shelled bugs for him to chew. The shells will be abrasive as he moves them and hopefully clean up his teeth and gumline a bit. If that doesn't help, you could try rubbing some maxiguard gel on the teeth and gums with a q-tip. He probably won't like that too much, but the maxiguard is a cleanser which may help prevent further buildup. It's milder than the antibiotic so might be a good compromise since you didn't like the idea of offering that (which is totally fine). I'd try the abrasive food first though and see how that goes for at least a few weeks.

Hi, sorry I should have mentioned the pictures above were taken 3 months ago, and all these while he did eat dubia roaches. I send again the photos taken this week, there seems no improvement, his mouth still have a lot of saliva and yellowish + silverish.

Meanwhile I only can use the diluted betadine to wash gum and teeth every day. Is it better to use the maxiguard? But like the old problem as always, maxiguard is not available in my country, I found another oral cleanser that can be used on reptile, can it replace maxiguard? I'm asking seller for the ingredients.

Hello,

That particular wash there is probably roughly the same as
the Maxiguard but hopefully the seller will get back with you on
the ingredients.
It doesn''t really look like there was or is an infection though.
Just some general build up which is pretty normal for them.
Otherwise instead of antibiotics just use some diluted betadine
for rinsing out his mouth, when needed. Let us know what you
were able to find out regarding the mouth wash you are looking at.

I agree that the teeth and gums look pretty normal. There is some buildup but I don't see the swelling or deterioration that I'd associate with infection. The betadine should do essentially the same thing by cleaning the teeth and gums. The photo you posted looks just like maxiguard, but I dont know the ingredients. Since I don't see an active sign of infection, I'd probably hold off on interfering too much since constant cleaning/disinfecting may have unintended negative consequences.

For reference/comparison, this is my dragon who had stomatitis. He was treated for infection and required frequent gum cleaning. It isn't the best picture of it, but you can see the swelling around his gums and edge of his mouth pretty clearly.

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
