I just bought a red hypo from a local breeder. Could someone take a stab at explaining to me what this means.
Ive read that hypo means less or no black, and also something about clear nails. While it(at 7 weeks i cant quite tell yet.
thinking female, hoping male.) is a georgous red color, the nails are mostly clear, with a little line running down the front of it.
heres a pic
Hi
Basically morph lines are created by selectively breeding dragons to get specific traits or colors. Now Hypo is supposed to mean the absence of color/dark color so a hypo beardie would in theory not have dark markings or more likely the markings would be more subtle then that of a normal. As for being het for clear nails or having clear nails some do have purely clear nails and that is cosidered to be a special trait although unlike yours the nails would have to be completely clear.Yours has normal nails but could still be het fo rclear nails which means he/she carries the trait and could pass it off to her/his offspring.
On a more important note your beardie is very pretty.Congrats!
Definitely not "hypo" though. All hypos have 100% clear nails. Het hypo possibly, the only way to tell is to be bred with a hypo or a het and see if any babies are hypo.
I will say that when they're babies it can be difficult to see the strand of color in the nails with the naked eye, so honest mistakes can be made.
You definitely made a great choice in color. I actually prefer a good colored het, or normal.
