firstly hello ! *waves* , im rache and me and my partner andy have a male bearded dragon "Mo-Jo"
weve had him since he was tiny and hes been doing really well he is now just over a year old and i have a little concern ...
he is sleeping (or more resting) a lot in the day and tending to favor the cool end , kind likes to hide away
hes still eating okish , maybe a little less than usual but okish
the strange thing is when u let him out hes REALLY active !!! running around exploring etc , but when in the viv hes just lazing around (mainly at the cool end)
he does still bask now and again in the day but not as much as he used to
ive double checked the temps they are fine , the UVB was replaced not that long ago , we have decent digital thermometer that reads both ends so im confident on the temps and uvb
hes still poo-ing ok too
so why the sulky sleepy behaviour when in the viv ? ! im confused !
im in the UK so its spring heading to summer here and he did brumate in winter BUT he did slow down loads , he came out of that around feb time, now this
hes a good size (22 inches roughly) and isnt skinny or anything , he just seems only happy when out !
hes having a bad shed so i am bathing fequently , so hes deffo not dhydrated
am i worrying over nothing ? is he just a moody teen ? , no signs of anything else wrong at all ! its just his lazy sleepy when in the viv behaviour thats bugging me ...... its not a small viv its a 4 ft one ! lol
anyhow can anyone reassure me or shed some light ? could it be his bad shed ?
My girl ALWAYS had that problem. She would eat, ok. Latley she had started to sleep a lot and was getting dingy. I bought a 100 Watt Trex MVB and bump up the temps in general. Temperature gradient is key! I now have her cool spot (under her log) at 88. That is the coolest area in her viv. She has 2 basking sites, 1 at 105 the other at 101 with temperatures ranging from 97-92 around the viv.
Try bumping up all the temps and making it very warm throughout the enclosure.
In the last 2 weeks she has gain 50 grams and is eating 25+ crickets daily! This is HUGE since she maintain 485 grams for the last 2 months and is now 1 year old.
If that doesn’t work, you can always get a fecal
edit: sheds can make them a little grumpy, but with a 4ft viv you will be able to create a very good temp gradient
