One of my girls (Nyx) has had a red spot on her foot for a while at first I thought it was a minor trauma or something so I watched it and eventually forgot about it. I noticed this morning that she has red spots on her back, tail and now on her underside by her vent...So I googled it and I'm 100% sure it's mites. I gave her a long (30 min) soak in a diluted betadine and warm water bath but only a couple of them came out. I ordered DeFlea Reptile Mite Spray it should be here tomorrow. So I checked my other dragons and my other female (Psyche) has a couple tiny spots that I think are mites. Is there anything that I can do in the meantime? Does anyone have any experience with mites? I have no idea where they got them! Help!!
I did rescue a girl a couple years ago that came with them. I'm not sure where the infection starts but I guarantee that you will need to sterilize everything! You can bake the rocks and clean the tank with a 5% bleach solution but if you can get your hands on a handheld steam cleaner! Well that is the best!
As for the beardies. Go to your local pharmacy and buy some Hibiclens and dilute that in a bath according to the instructions should be fine. Get a very soft toothbrush and start brushing them off, picking them off... That is what I did and there was no reinfection. The Hibiclens is very gentle too. Not sure though if you are getting the other stuff tomorrow. I would see if anyone has any experience with that spray. Hope that helps.
oddly enough I have a handheld steam cleaner... Odd question can I bake tile? I have tile as all of their substrate, I will boil and bake everything. Due to the horrible weather here I was unable to get out today to get bleach (beach community getting snow ...) I will try for tomorrow. The reviews for the spray were all good so I'm hoping and crossing my fingers that it works. I feel so bad for them. I'm glad my male doesn't have any but I will still sterilize his enclosure as well just to be on the safe side. Thank you soo much for your help.
