This is Sydney my citrus bearded dragon. She's getting ready to shed so she's not nearly as bright red and gold in this picture as usual.
. Here's when she was a little younger, but you get an idea of her true coloring. She's a beauty!
Yes, she is wearing a collar. I made it out of elastic and monitor the fit to be sure it allows for her to puff up. I use it as a safety leash when I take her out of the house. It's attached to my necklace to keep her from falling off me or jumping if startled.
Sydney falls asleep snuggled up to my neck. She's absolutely limp when I pick her up to put her to bed. She sits on my shoulder and watches the world. She wants to be with me and will scratch on her terrarium until I pick her up.
About 15 years ago I raised a standard male beardie. He was great. I ended up giving him to a breeder. I got Sydney when she was just six inches. I just love her!
How fast they grow! I got Sydney from a local breeder on October 12, 2012.
This photo taken today, January 4, 2013 show what can happen in less than three months!
The breeder said she's a citrus. How would you (on the board) describe her?
If you look at her pic when she was very small, she had red paisley patterns and red stripes down her sides. Now she's more dark orange and gold. When she's out in direct sun, the only red I see now is on her head. I'll take a good picture after she sheds.
They tend to change colour depending on their mood and whether they're hot or cold. For example Drake my last beardie was a hypo-red. Most the time he was orange-brown colour. When cold he would be dark brown, almost black! Once he had a stressful time at the vet and he puffed up his beard and was bright yellow! They can show quite a lot of variation in colour!
I would describe your beardie as hypo-red like my last one (just by looking at the pics), but if she had a citrus parent then I do not doubt there will be some citrus colouration hidden there too. You can see quite a bit of yellow in the pics.
Yes, I am aware of the color changes that occur. When she is suppressing her dark pigments, she almost glows gold, red and orange. When she's wearing her dark colors, the background on her back is deep brown with black and orange. She's never been stressed enough to really show me her threat colors.
