Hey everyone! My name is Andy and as of a week ago tomorrow I became a first time bearded dragon owner! I can honestly say it's been one of the best decisions of my life. Spyro has been such a joy and has already made himself at home. I never thought a reptile could be so tame and so friendly after such a short time! As far as his specifics go I'm not sure what type of beardy he is, although he was listed as "fancy" at petsmart  . I bought him over the others however because of his curious personality and the way he greeted me through the glass at the store, it's like we were meant to be! I'm not sure on weight right now but he's around 8.5 inches long. I look forward to posting more soon, if you guys have any idea on what kind he might be or just general new owner tips let me know!
welcome and he's pretty ^_^
Spyro is the name I almost went though myself as well, but decided on Flik instead which is still a PS1 game though just a different game- suikoden 2 <3
yea I see a lot of "fancy" at petsmart, but my friends IRL (who've had beardies) tell me it's just mix of morphs/colors
though i have no idea to be honest what they really are @.@
I just know the ones in my area have the most color as babies.... not sure about adulthood though
btw how did you get that red lighting in the last pic?
Yeah with the fancy's there I think you're paying $10 more for selective breeding but whatever, I bought him more for personality than color! Also, Flik is an awesome name! And as for the red lighting, I have an Exo Terra Infrared bulb for his basking spot! It's nice because I can keep it on at night with a dimmer where it keeps him warm enough but isn't too bright for him to sleep! As you can see here he sleeps like a baby whether it be pancaking down or standing
wait isn't colored lighting bad for beardies?
I thought it was just the way you had taken the picture with the sun @.@
*goes looks up to be sure she's right* :study:
yea it says in the newbie list of what to buy not to get those D:
here's what it says:
Nighttime
NO COLORED LIGHTS! No red lights! No 'moonlight' lights!
If temperatures in your house drop bellow 65 at night, you will want a CHE.
It MUST be used with a ceramic socket dome. No plastic sockets! CHE's get very hot, and are a big fire hazard if housed in a dome fixture that doesn't have a ceramic socket.
If I remember right I read somewhere that the color lighting can cause blindness
Thanks for the tips there! I had read somewhere that infrareds were better for them but after seeing that and doing more research I see I was wrong! I went out and got a new normal basking bulb for him today and he seems to be enjoying it!
Pardon the stress marks on his beard, he's been shedding a lot today so that's been bugging him a lot :?
it's mostly for silkbacks since because I think they have problems with shedding, but he says it also helps with reptiles that need shedding help
he also has a video about how to make his tank, but he does cut offs so it can be a bit hard to follow (at least for me it is). Though here's the link if you want it anyways-> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4W6Ye_XvEA
