I was wondering if feeding mealworms as a treat everyday would cause diahreea? When I got my beardie his stools were more firm, and I've been feeding 10-12 crickets daily and all he wants to eat salad [grated squash, collard greens, cactus occationally. mustard greens when I can find them] But I've been giving him 8-9 large mealworms for a treat in the evening. is that whats causing this? I've been thinking of the roaches instead of crickets but dont know where to order them. Thanks!
It's possible that he's just well hydrated. I don't know of mealworms to cause diarrhea but they aren't very nutritious. Is this a recent change? It may be worth taking a sample to the vet for analysis to see if something's up.
Thanks Cooper, I'm taking a sample in next week. My beardie is a rescue, the teen that had him before was scared of him and didnt take very good care of him. Henry hasnt been handled and beards up when I pick him up, he also flips out and struggles to get away. It's getting better though, he still beards up but I just talk to him and it goes down. I was feeding him by hand and found out thats not a good thing with him,he will bite if he thinks there's food in my hand. But I love the little squirt! He makes me laugh alot!
I'm glad to hear it's working out despite attempted bites ;^). Going through the same thing myself with a rescue. Dundee's sample is going in tomorrow along with a full workup. Poor little guy. Totally different, and totally worth it =)
Yes they are aren't they..... I've had snakes for years and loved them, this is my first time with a beardie, I've been looking at craigslist and there are some beardies to rescue so I'm thinking about that too.
