They said she aspirated on the water. They've got a tube down her and some oxygen going and her heart rate is doing better but we aren't sure how well she's going to do, she's not waking up and her heart rate is 40. And then its going to be more money than we have to do anything else.
Im so sorry to hear that, with the oxygen maybe she'll pull through. They are pretty resilient. You'll have to be on serious alert for pneumonia though, that is what happened to Zen. It was 2 month's after aspirating till the pneumonia. Don't let your guard down.
Also don't loose faith in yourself. @NickAVD gave me the same advice and on hind sight I appreciate it emincely. You know and love beardies don't let this scare ya away from them.

I can only repeat Scott's words. Please do not lose faith in yourself. These little creatures can penetrate our hearts. And it is very painful to see if they are sick. We must simply try to do everything in our power to help them. I have little experience and I am not a veterinarian, but I know for sure that you can not give up.

The issue is that she isn't breathing on her own. Her heart rate is steady ish and they got more fluid out and gave her fluids under the skin but she went however long, an hour or two maybe.? Without breathing and she still hasn't taken a breath on her own yet and the vet really doesn't think she will so we are having to make the decision to let her go now or bring her home and let her go on her own that way. She's in a coma-like state and the vet doesn't think she will pull through.

We had to make that decision. She's not breathing on her own, it's already been easily two hours, she wont breathe on her own. The damage is done and I didn't even see it. She drank some, I let her sit for several minutes before putting her back and she seemed fine. Her saliva is very, very sticky and they think that added to how badly she aspirated. So we had to make the decision to let her go, she isnt going to be improving.

Hello,

Oh no, she aspirated on water she was drinking on her own? This isn't your fault, it
is such a common occurrence. I am so very
sorry this happened.
This is very heartbreaking indeed. I am so
sorry you lost her so suddenly.
My condolences to you.

When I got up to pick her up and she was so... lifeless, like a ragdoll, I knew it was over. Her heart rate was in the 40s, would drop real low, then back to 40 and they kept getting fluid out but she just wouldnt breathe on her own and hadnt for over an hour and her saliva was like tacky glue almost, it was super super stringy and sticky and they think that made it worse. If I hadn't continued the ceftaz or had pushed the vet to give her fluids because I knew her eyes looked sunken in, I wouldnt have considered giving her water and she wouldn't have aspirated on it and she might still be here...I feel I could have 100% prevented this.

Nova has been coughing too, and keeps doing that licking like shes trying to get something out of her mouth, but the techs didn't see anything. She had her first injection yesterday and is already a bit meh today and im so worried its something thats going to kill all our lixards and we just don't have the money. I dont even have the money to get her an xray tomorrow to verify anything or whatever and im working *constantly*. Things have been going so badly lately, I dont know how to find my way out.

It's hard for me to even imagine what you're going through right now. But tell me, did the vet determine the exact cause of the illness?
I don't have much experience, but have you considered that the cause could be in the diet?
Last year was very difficult in our city. I know the owner of the reptile shop well, he is also a vet. He said that owners who lost their dragons came to him en masse. He performed an autopsy and the cause of death was a diseased liver. In the end, it turned out that everyone was feeding greens with a high nitrate content. I already wrote that I don't have much experience, but check your dragons' diet again.

Well, their salads are a mix of collard, mustard, turnip greens, kale and sometimes baby arugula. And i wouldn't be surprised if she did have some fatty liver, she was fat, she always acted like she was starving and was a great eater, but with the situation with Toothless, we changed to their recommended diet. (A handful of mealworms once a week)

Miko had the "pneumonia" but her lungs didn't look awful, just a change in opacity so I think it was more of a respiratory infection. And then Dreki started coughing and the vet was like, we can do an xray or just start the ceftaz injection to be safe and I think her issue was a real reaction to the antibiotic. I have a video of her 30 minutes before the injection and the next morning and its totally different. She was alert, no black beard, no sunken eyes, not lethargic. And then as the last few days went on, the saliva in her mouth got *really*, *really* sticky and stringy and they think she aspirated because the water just made a glue like substance with her saliva.

I think the main issue was a reaction to the antibiotic. Now we're paranoid with Nova, because she was coughing (but hers seems more like something stuck in her mouth, even though they didn't see anything) and she had her first shot yesterday and seems a little meh today. Twice in the last two months, we lost two lizards within a week from getting sick. I can't handle it.

If your going to give water use an eyedropper so you can control how much and how fast she drinks.
When Zen aspirated he wouldn't breathe either, we spent half tge night doing cpr on him. It was unbelievably traumatizing. It literally was hours before he would breathe on his own. We still ended up loosing him anyways. I know exactly what your going through and pretty close to how your feeling. Honestly following this thread has been kinda hard, it brings back everything we went through with Zen. The similarities are heart breaking. I wish there were words to make it all better for you, but I know words are hollow right now. We/I am here if you need someone to talk/vent to.

You have no idea how much you guys mean to us, to me.

I started with dropping it on her nose but she was thirsty and pulled herself into the bowl. She only drank for a minute and not very fast at all, and I gave her a few minutes before putting her back, but she must have aspirated within a few minutes of putting her back. I just feel awful and feel like there was something we could have done. I hate it. Dreki was so darn sweet and silly. Out of all of them, she absolutely looked at us like she could understand us 100%. I hate that shes gone.

If it was a reaction to the medicine there was probably not likely anything you could have done. I know that don't help but don't blame yourself either. If she aspirated on the water it would have probably been noticeable quickly. It was more than likely the thickened saliva. You didn't have any way of knowing about it or preventing it.

So very sorry for your loss of your beloved beardie! You did everything you could and then made the very brave decision to let her go and end her suffering. Im hoping with all my heart that your other beardies pull through just fine and do well!

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?
