Unfortunately, we lost Nova today.

She was doing okay, considering. She started randomly headbanging at nothing today, every so often. She wanted out, to run around so we had her on the bed with us. Chris went outside to smoke and I had to go to the kitchen and didn't want to leave her so I brought her. I decided to take her outside, to get some sun. Immediately, she wanted down to run around, which was unlike her, being outside. So I set her down to let her waddle around the driveway. She was there for only a minute or two before we went inside and I put her in her tank. And then she started coughing, more like gagging. So hard her eyes were bulging and her tail popped. Her face was twitching and she'd lift her head real high, drop it and then start headbobbing. I think she maybe was almost having a seizure or something.? Im not sure. The vet said the consult for her xray said they thought it maybe was some kind of tumor. Cabbil flipped her on her back and Nova was just dead weight. She said short of surgery, there wasn't anything else we could do and she really didn't think she'd make it the 2 hour drive to UGA. She was breathing, but real shallow and you'd basically have to disturb her for her to take a breath. So, we had to make that decision. Again. The vet is going to do a necropsy on her and the donations made so far will go to a private cremation and a nice urn for her.

I want to thank everyone for your help, both with donations over the last day and the advice the last two years. You all have been so incredibly helpful and been wonderful people to lean on when we've needed. I truly can't help but to blame myself this time. She hadn't coughed all day, all night. Maybe if I hadn't taken her outside, let her get riled, so to speak, she wouldn't have started coughing and whatever else happened. My baby girl, my baby Nova is gone and it really, truly feels my fault.
Oh no, no! You gave her some beautiful last moments with you both, in the warm sunshine and nature! You made her last bit of time with you super special, and Im sure she is smiling down on you with happiness! She knew what she needed, to be outside with you, and you gave it to her!

Oh my god I'm so sorry 😪 this is unbelievable. Don't blame yourself, your are doing everything humanly possible for you beardies. I'm still of the mind something environmental is causing this. Some kind of pesticides sprayed to near your house, contaminated vegetables (there have been a bunch of recalls lately) or something of the sort. Either way I know your heart is broken, I wish I could give you a hug and console you guys.
I say grill the vet and pin them down on the why, what caused it, and how to prevent if from harming your other beardies.
Again I want to offer my deepest condolences 😔

Oh no!
Please don't blame yourself. Maybe your vet is right and Nova had cancer.
If so, it would have happened anyway, beardies are good at hiding their illnesses, but you gave her a sunny day and a walk in the fresh air. That's the best thing that could have been done. May Nova rest in peace.
Please accept my deepest condolences.😔😔😔

We thought so at first. But its only recently been tolerable for us to be outside without a sweater and jacket so other than to go to the vet, none of them have been outside. And our stores are pretty good about pulling recalled veggies and stuff off shelves and the others are eatinf the same greens with no symptoms. Her tank is relatively clean, save for salad she's dumped everywhere and she shares communal spaces with the other. Dr. Cabbil is going to do a necropsy to see what it is and the consult does believe its a tumor of sorts possibly pushing up on some organs. Her last coughs were like breathless gagging, like something was trying to come up and was *right there*, if that makes sense. But nothing was there. And her face, near her ears/corner of her mouth kept twitching and then, when I got oit of the car, I had her against my chest and it may have been because of how I held her and her being limp, but I swear her body started to curl in like she was starting to have a seizure.? But that only lasted a second or two, so im probably wrong on that one.

She did say, just to be safe, to do some deep tank cleans and keep them on paper towels for a good minute, so hopefully the necropsy will give us some answers. Im still planning to get my toothless tattoo soon and now I need to figure a way to add Dreki and Nova to it, too.

Oh you should have seen her. They're all afraid of the outside, but Nova would at least walk around the yard a little bit, a few steps. As soon as I stepped onto the driveway, she was insistent to get out of my arms and onto the ground. So I set her on the driveway and after a minute or so, she trotted off. She ran around the driveway, to the bushes at the corner of the house, into the open garage and everytime she stopped, she'd headbob. (Honestly, that started randomly today and with the way it looked, i think it was caused by something maybe neurological going on, it just looked weird) but she was *so* *so* bright orange, literally the color of an orange. It was so sweet to see her enjoy it. But maybe if I hadn't taken her oit, it would have possibly overwhelmed her system. She really wanted back out everytime I put her in her tank

Aww, the head bobs are territorial, so maybe that was her way of saying this will always be her home and she will always be with you!

I would love to see a picture when you do. My next tat will be beardies also.
I don't think taking her outside caused it, especially if it was cancer.
I've lost some of my girls to cancer, it's a horrible feeling. Sometimes it's completely out of our hands. I also know knowing that doesn't make it not hurt. 😔

When our patients were passing, very often a day or two before, they would get very bright and cheery, enjoying their families, alert and talkative. I think its a way of providing comfort to the families they are leaving behind.

This is the one of Toothless im getting. Someone drew it for me, he's wearing a headpiece/hat thing that's fuzzy and has a unicorn horn on it.😂 so ive got to figure a way to add Nova and Dreki as well.

How about wings for the other two? I think itd be really cool to imagine them as winged dragons over the rainbow bridge!

Hello,

Oh no, I am so sorry you lost Nova so suddenly like that, how awful for you! She knew just how much
you loved her & she did get to be outdoors with you at the end. It really is devastating to lose a precious
dragon & hard to recover from. So sorry for your loss.

This is a great drawing! Toothless is so happy in it and smiles so beautifully, as if he is telling us not to worry about him and that he is doing well!

a poem by AHBD (THANK YOU SO MUCH! I LOVE IT!)

Sir Henry the dragon
Looking for his dragon girl
Ventures out in to the wide world
His hopes are up but as you can see
There is no dragon girl for Sir Henry
A light bulb goes off and he takes mom aside
Could you perchance get me a mail order bride ?

Hi there a little update we went from a 50 watt heat lamp to a 100 watt basking halogen heat lamp hahaha I saw some comments about it being so close so I made sure to put it a ruler away from her
Has anyone seen this before? Something in the corner of his mouth
