I have the great opportunity to gather some manzanita for free at a friends in California...I want to know if I need to "cure" it before putting it in with my bearie. Do i need to dry it or treat it in any way or can I use it still "green"?
When adding branches and logs to an enclosure, I usually rinse them really well with warm water and then bake them in the oven on low (250f in my oven) for 30-45 minutes in order to clean them up.
Thanks Cooper...with that said I completely agree but want to know if I need to "dry" out the manzanita before doing any of this as this will be green wood.
If it's still green, you may run into some sap issues when you bake it. I'm not sure if that sap is harmful or not but it probably wouldn't hurt to dry it out first. I would at least try to remove any sap residue after baking before adding it to the enclosure.
