I have a 3 year old female dragon, she is in optimum health and weight. I borrowed a male dragon from a friend in an attempt to start my first beardie breeding project. As soon as I placed the two together courting behavior started. She shows signs of being receptive then the male mounts and bites her neck. This always ends very anticlimactically with him dismounting and running circles around her. But no actual copulation ever occurs. Has anyone had similar problemsor can maybe shed some light on these issues. I really want this to work.
My male was doing that to my female the first few days they were together. It toke about almost 2weeks before he finally sealed the deal. So just give him time, he might need to work his way up. whats the size diff between the two of them?
They are of equal length about 17". The female is a big girl and probably out weighs the mail by 75-100 grams. But he seems to be having no issue assuming the dominant role. Let me ask you frej did your female seem to get fed up with it? Mine seems to get annoyed after awhile and just sort of ignores him. Did you remove the male periodically or just keep them together for the entire two week duration.
Ya my female did act like she had no time for him, it almost seemed like she was saying " Look dude Im not gonna sit here waiting for you to "MAN" up, so screw you". At least thats how i saw it. I did leave them in together for about a week and kept a close eye on them. After about a week or so I finnally saw the two of them "seal the deal". The funny thing is a couple of days ago i brought both out on the kitchen floor and the male did his dance and mounted the female. Well she was not happy about that and basicly tossed him right off her and tryed to bite him. Good thing I was there to part them two, cause she seemed so pissed at him for trying to get some again. It suprised the hell out of me.
Were they both brumated?? It sounds like the male is only interested in dominance, and the female may not be "lifting her tail". I have found that some pairings don't work whether it's the individual dragons or the seasonal timing.
