Male bearded dragon biting female

So I've had these beardies for about 7 months now and we didn't know that they were different sexes until a few months after we bought them and now since like 2 months or so the male has been biting the other one and i heard that thats what they do to mate but he never actually did it he just holds on to her on nothing happens and since shes been trying to escape its been ripping her scales off and I'm not sure how to disinfect it or anything and we've been looking to seperate them but I cant really afford another tank and all the equipment right now so we're starting to look for another owner, what should i do in the mean time (hes getting really strong now its actually hard to open up his mouth for me he just did it now and thats when he has probably hurt her the most, he also bobs his head at every single thing he sees even things that arent there)

He also specifically only bites her behind the neck where it kind of goes into a crown

Hi there, he's definitely trying to mate with her and she can actually already be gravid [ pregnant ] or will become soon . There's no choice but to separate them ASAP. You can get a large plastic storage tote at Walmart or Home Depot for about $ 15- $18 . Then collect a few nice clean logs from outside, put in oven to disinfect for 1 hour at 225 degrees. A nice rock from outdoors as well, just wash in hot soapy water + rinse. So far the only cost is the plastic tote. Then just get an aluminum dome reflector + heat bulb at Home Depot as well. You can use regular bulbs like this, but not LED. Get the halogen bulbs in a 4 pack.

As for her neck, just put some raw honey on it, that will heal it right up. Neosporin is also fine. I've seen that plenty of times when my dragons were breeding in the past and she'll be fine but you have to remove the male or he'll cause damage on top of damage. Also be SURE there are no loose crickets roaming the tank to bother her. They come out at night and hide during the day.

You're welcome ! That's all you can do until you find a home for one of them or until you get the $$ to buy a new set up but it will work for now.
