Hey everyone, I have been feeding my beardie a mixture of vegetables and fruit since I got him about 2 years ago. You would think I would have a nifty/easy way to make his salads by now, but I don't. So I'm wondering what u guys do to keep your beardies salad fresh and sufficient. I usually buy a pre-mixed veggy salad from the supermarket (I will post a pic) and I will mix in blueberries and/or strawberries. Or I will switch it up every once and a while and buy a bundle of mustard greens or collard greens and mix in some squash.
My problem is that it gets expensive and becomes time consuming to have to make so many trips to the supermarket to buy this stuff and keep it fresh. Does anyone here have any suggestions on a good pre-mixed blend that will stay fresh for longer periods of time in a standard plastic container (like the one that's in the pic)?
I bought some mustard greens separate and was gonna cut up some squash and mix it all together with this veggy blend and throw it in the container. What do u guys think?
Hi! I buy a bunch each of collards, turnips and mustard greens (just because that is what she likes). I then put them in the Debbie Meyer's Green Bags. They allow the gases to flow through the bags so they don't go bad so quick. Every few days I make a batch that I shred up and stick in a tupperware container with a paper towel to absorb moisture. I do a seperate container for the shredded squash. With the green bags I just dry up any condensation in the bags that appears every few days and throw out any icky stems I find. This seems to work and I probably only buy veggies every two weeks or so. I don't have time to make the salads everyday either which is why I try and prep enough for about 2-3 days. It saves money too since the premix can be kinda pricey and not enough to last me to the next paycheck. I think I spend about $1.50-$2.00 a bunch. Oh, and the green bags can be washed and reused something like 10 times. It's worth a try. Good luck and if this doesn't make sense let me know. Sometimes my typing can be all over the place
