Hello there,
I have a pair of bearded dragons 1 male about 9 months old, 1 female about 7 months old . PREVIOUSLY they were housed together for several months with no problems. About a month ago I noticed that the male was displaying the typical mating rituals and actually attempted to perform the deed once or twice. I have since separated them and they are now in their own enclosures.
The MALE is housed in a 75 gal tank:
multiple basking areas of 90-105 F
cool side of the tank is at about 80- 85
reptile carpet substrate
diet of greens (doesn't usually eat), crickets, meal, phoenix, wax, and super worms.
He has continued to display head bobbing, darkened beard and scratching at glass when the female can be seen. Within the past week he seems to have lost his appetite. I can only get him to eat 3-4 large crickets a day. I can't get him to eat anything else, even his favorite the super worms. He seems healthy and active...I have to wonder if he is just focused to trying to mate. I do bath him every other day to avoid dehydration.
Should I be concerned..anything else to look...suggestions? Thanks!
Hello . I would stop feeding mealworms they can cause impaction and aren't a good nutritious feeder anyways. What brand of UVB do you have? Can they see each other? I would try moving they so they can't see each other. My female and male don't like to see each other.
He's only fed the mealies on occasion, I do not think impaction is the issue. USB bulb is 160 watt solar glo. They usually cannot see one another, only when I take one out. But I'm sure they are aware of that the other is in the tank next door. Anyone else?
The UVB light is wrong. That brand can hurt their eyes. I would get a reptisun 10.0 tube bulb and mount it inside the tank. The wrong UVB can be the problem.
