So ive had a few mecury vapour bulbs in the past (mega ray, solor glo by exo terra and currently powersun by zoomed (current)) and my dragon doesnt seem to be resoponding well to them. Im looking to go with just a standard 125 watt heat bulb and a zoo med reptisun 10.0 either tube or compact. Now here come my question is my tank is a 4x2x2 enclosure so im either going to mount my uvb on top 24 inches from floor or inside his tank which would be 20 inches from floor ( he also had logs where he can get up higher in the tank and a hut where he can hide from the light. Does this sound ok? and what is better a tube bulb or compact bulb? MY dragon hasent been himself lately and i think its due to lighting so im looking at cheap options I already have a hood lying around for the tube light and im currently using a exo terra hood with 2 compact house bulbs so my only cost would be the bulbs.
Beardie is 3 years old and likes to hide from his light so this is why im looking at changing. Im located in canada if you have any suggestions on other lights that would be better? Just tired of blowing $50-80 depending on the MVB.
Be sure to get the tube. Compacts are no-no's for beardies.
As long as he can get within about 6-12" to the UVB, he should be fine. Also place the basking light near the UVB so he can bask while getting UVB. It's better to place the UVB inside, so there is no screen to impede the UVB rays.
ok thanks of the no compact! took at look at the stores today and they dont sell the zoomed reptisun 10.0 they sell the exo terra 10.0 are these the same bulbs pretty much? and is the standard size t8?
Unfortunately the ReptiGlo's also have a bad reputation. I also couldn't find the reptisun linear tubes at shops in my area, so I had to order one online, which was less expensive, but I remember worrying about my beardie while he wasn't getting UVB. Recently PetCo and PetsMart in my area started carrying the reptisun.
I've read about many lights being reformulated by manufacturers so they work better for beardies, but not sure if this has happened.
