I've read a lot on here about the ReptiGlo's being really bad UV wise for the beardies, but I don't have a local ReptiSun dealer. Do any of you know of a place in Canada that sells it? Or a place in the US willing to ship to Canada? Also, on a separate post, I read that beardies can see the infrared lighting very well and it can disrupt their sleep pattern. I was told that the infrared spectrum is not able to be seen by reptile eyes, which is why it's so good for the night. And to be honest, as soon as I turn it on, my beardie goes straight to sleep. Can I get some confirmation on that, by any chance?
I'm not sure about any dealers in Canada, I haven't seen any stores in the US sell them, either. You could check http://www.petmountain.com/product/reptile-fluorescent-bulbs/504983/zoo-med-reptisun-10.0-uvb-bulb.html I'm not sure if it ships internationally, though. Most reptiles cannot see the red bulbs. This does not apply to beardies. Its never that simple lol. I can't confirm that it has any adverse effects on their sleeping patterns, but I know that they can see it. Is it necessary to have at night in your house? Temperatures can drop to the mid 60s at night and a beardie can survive. Good luck and keep us posted!
Thanks for the reply Andy. =) It's not necessary for Bruce to have a night heat lamp about 8 or 9 months of the year, but when it comes to winter, it gets pretty cold in my house so I keep it on just to keep her from getting too cold. She's usually brumating at that point, so I don't know how warm she should be exactly. Some people have told me to just leave the heat off until she starts to wake back up, but I don't see how she'd wake up if she still thinks it's cold out. =)
I'll check out that website for sure, tyvm for posting it!
