Ok, well i have done a ton of research on dragons before purchasing one. However it has been internet info so take it as you will. I have had my dragon for about a month now he is about 11 inches. I am new to the world of dragons so i am very attentive to my little guy and always searching the net to cross reference his set up and his actions to make sure everything is in order. As i was going over his cage set up today i realized i have a 30 watt bulb in my reptisun 10.0 36 inch. However my 36 inch hood is rated for 25 watts. The light seems to work fine and provides enough light an so on. However i was wondering would the 5 watt loss effect the output of the much needed uva/uvb. To be clear my dragon seems to be fine as he moves around and acts as a normal dragon would. He is not lethargic and eats just fine. But i worry as i do not have a way to measure the out put of uvb if he is getting what he needs.
Other then DIY'ing a fixture. Seems ! am having a very hard time finding a 36inch 30watt fixture to house my reptisun 36inch 30 watt 10.0 bulb. Any suggestions or can any one point me in the direction as to where i may buy one? Obviously the cheaper the better but quality is important to me! Thank you!
I know it's more expensive, but the fixture from zoomed, zilla, or exoterra might be a better choice. They have a built in back reflector, which increases the UVB output by about two-fold. Below is a link to the reference.
Double check the wattage, I saw something on here yesterday saying that that wattage listed is the European wattage or something like that. If you go on ZooMed's site and look at the model number it will say the wattage is 25 for the 36" Reptisun 10.0. I was thrown off by that too but it now makes sense. So pretty much any standard 36" T8 fixture should work fine. I'm just a long time lurker and I haven't bought my fixture yet myself, but I've been researching this too. Here's the links to what brought me to that. You can use your own speculation to that or if someone can back this up that'd be great.
Now I'm really confused, it says 30W on petmountain.com for the 36". I also read that wattage stays the same for all appliances whether it's on the 110v American or 220v European system which I should have known better to begin with.
I went to a few local pet stores for a 36inch reptisun 10.0 and no one had it in the size. I bought a zoomed 36inch hood for my viv. I didnt look at the wattage. I just made sure it was the right product and size assuming all wattages and such would convey. Got on Amazon and ordered up a t8 reptisun 10.0. Then when I was cleaning my dragons tank I noticed the difference in watts and looked on the hood and came across the discrepancy. Amazon has the bulb listed a 30 watt, an hard as I have looked I haven't been able to find a t8 hood in 36 inch that is above 25 watts so I don't know.
I sent an email to ZooMed to see if they could clarify. I'll post what they say if they get back to me. I just think it's strange that they would make the 36" 30 watts when, from what I gather, the standard fixture for that length is a 25 watt. :study: :?:
Hello Darryl,
Thank you for contacting us. The Reptisun 10.0 T8 36 inch is 25 watts for use in the US and 30 watts in Europe. The box for the bulb may say 30 watts but the bulb should have a F25T8 etched on it. The boxes are what we have left over from when we sold exclusively in Europe. Our next run the correct wattage will be on the box. The websites may be going off what is on the box and not on the bulb. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind Regards,
Jennifer Shamblin

I'd say you are correct with that being a good answer. Thank you as that will ease my mind (Also my wallet so now i don't have to get another fixture). I had read that the watts on the boxes where messed up as well but hadn't gotten to emailing the company. I got confused because i saw several sites posting the same thing as 30 watts any how thanks again!
I'm all about recycling. But I feel pretty strongly that appropriate product labeling is important. It's quite simple to order enough stickers to correct the box information and not have to waste the boxes themselves.
