I just got a great deal on a 40 gallon breeder Zilla reptile tank at petsmart, they matched petco's price of $1 per gallon, so I got it for $40.00, it was originally $100 plus tax, but anyways on to the question lol. I ordered a ton of supplies for all of my tanks from petmountain.com, I was wondering if the 100 watt basking bulb that I ordered will be too hot, or not enough heat or just right for the beardie I have thats going to be in the 40 gallon breeder? I also am going to put a reptisun 10.0 on the other side of the tank. Anyways, do you think 100 watt will be the right wattage bulb for a 40 gallon breeder? let me know...thanks again!! (btw the bearded dragon thats going in that tank is a juvenile.)
It's actually hard to say for sure what wattage basking bulb you will need as it depends on your room temps, the height of the basking log, etc. One of my tanks is a 40 breeder and I only need a 75 watt household bulb on the basking side which is about 13" from the basking log and a 25 watt household bulb on the cool side.
The fluorescent Repti-Sun should actually be on the basking side right alongside a white basking light so that your beardie can get the benefit of both bulbs at the same time.
