13 DEC 2021 AUSTRALIAN DELTA WAVE continued. NT's worst day of the entire pandemic ,recorded 17 cases , of which 16 are LOCAL , 0 mystery case included..Their LOCAL total in this output is 90. NT recorded zero delta deaths.. 14 of the new cases are from households in four streets in Katherine East, where a testing blitz had been taking place. Of those 14 cases, 8 are children under 12, 5 are aged in their 20s, 30s or 40s, and 1 is a 70-year-old woman. The remaining 2 cases — a teenage boy and a man in his 70s — are already in quarantine. There was also one positive case from an international repatriation flight. The CEO of Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation is concerned by the detection of COVID-19 in Tennant Creek's wastewater, while the Northern Territory Government is criticising low testing rates in the town. A 72-hour mask mandate was implemented in Tennant Creek and five remote communities yesterday, where there were no known cases of COVID. Anyinginyi's Barb Shaw said the wastewater detection was "alarming", but it's something they have prepared for. "And so then it was just a matter of putting thing in motion that needed to be done immediately after that announcement," she said. Speaking on ABC Radio Alice Springs this morning, Health Minister Natasha Fyles said a rapid response team has been deployed to Tennant Creek, including staff from Alice Springs. "We've sent teams... to provide support for the testing and vaccination at the hospital," she said. Ms Shaw said Tennant Creek's two-dose COVID-19 vaccination rate of 69 % was a "major concern", just a week out from the opening of NT borders. "We'll keep pushing, but we've certainly got some communities out in the regional areas... where hesitancy still remains." "But we're focusing on those communities where we've got teams going out, and people are actually staying there for long weeks to be able to do that push." While acknowledging Tennant Creek's double-dose figure was low, Natasha Fyles said 83 % of people had received their first dose. "So it is important to acknowledge the efforts of people that have come forward," she said. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WA recorded 1 CASES , 0 LOCAL cases, and 0 delta deaths.. Western Australia’s premier, Mark McGowan, has announced the state’s border will reopen on 5 February when double-dose vaccination is predicted to hit 90%, allowing for quarantine-free travel to the state. Why was 5 February chosen? The date was chosen based on advise provided by health professionals and projections that 90% of people older than 12 will be double-dose vaccinated by 5 February. “We are very confident that by 5 February we will hit double-dose vaccination for the entirety of Western Australia,” McGowan said. What are the vaccination rates like in WA? Statewide, more than 200,000 people still need to get their second vaccination dose to reach the 90% mark. Currently, 57% of the Aboriginal population have received their first dose and about 40% are fully vaccinated. More than 90% of people aged 50 and over are fully vaccinated; about 82% of the 40-something population are fully vaccinated; 75% of 30–40-year-olds are fully vaccinated; for the 20-something cohort, 60% are fully vaccinated; for those aged 16 to 19 years, 63% are fully vaccinated; and half of all kids aged 12 to 15 have been vaccinated. WA Premier Mark McGowan said if the regions with low vaccination rates don’t reach the 80 per cent double dose mark by February 5 when borders reopen, they will be subject to “enhanced public health measures”. Mr McGowan called out specific regions with low vaccination rates including the Kimberley, Goldfields, and the Pilbara. “Proof of vaccination requirements will be expanded to pubs, bars, dine in service at restaurants and cafes, bottle shops, other indoor entertainment venues, gyms, and fitness centres,” he said. “Mask wearing will be required at other indoor venues that do not require proof of vaccination. “And no air travel into the region will be permitted without proof of vaccination for people aged 12 and over.” >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> TAS recorded 0 CASES & recorded zero delta deaths.. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NEW ZEALAND'S DELTA WAVE NZ recorded 100 local delta cases overnight , includes 1 mystery cases .Total of local Delta transmissions is now 9831. NZ recorded 1 delta deaths today. AUSTRALIAN OMICRON OUTBREAK 13 December 2021 NSW There is a total of 64 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant of concern in NSW. There were 9 new cases confirmed with the Omicron variant overnight, and more are expected as results of genomic testing are confirmed. NSW Health has updated its advice for The Argyle House nightclub in Newcastle after an escalation in COVID-19 transmission at the venue. So far, 84 people linked to the nightclub have tested positive to COVID-19, 60 of these overnight. A number of these cases are likely to be the Omicron variant. All 680 people who checked in using the QR code to attend the venue from 9pm on Wednesday 8 December to 3am on Thursday 9 December have been assessed as close contacts and must immediately get tested and isolate for 7 days. NSW Health is appealing for anyone who did not check in using the QR code to also urgently get tested and isolate, and for their friends to ensure other potential attendees are aware of this advice. Given the high transmission of COVID-19 at the venue, HNE asks contacts of anyone who attended to also immediately get tested and isolate until they and the close contact tests negative. NSW = 64 ACT = 5 NT = 1 QLD = 3 VIC = 3 + 7 POSSIBLES SA = 2 TOT OMICRON = 78 LOOKING AT COMPARABLE NATIONS WRT VAX COVERAGE OVERSEAS. Denmark and the UK both tracking about the same Omicron growth rate (~1.8 day doubling time). Still tracking to have a massive wave around Christmas. 400-500% advantage over Delta. To put this severe growth into perspective, in the UK/Denmark you are about 10x more likely to be infected with Omicron today than you were one week ago. A week from now, 10x more likely than today. Two weeks from now, 100x more likely than today. NEED FOR BOOSTERS TO COMBACT SEVERE OMICRON ILLNESS AZ efficacy is extremely poor against Omicron. Improves with a Pfizer or Moderna Booster. Pfizer efficacy takes a big it ( becomes like a flip of a coin ie probably of breakthrough severe Omicron illness becomes excessive ), a Pfizer booster improves efficacy to good levels against Omicron. The sweetspot for Pfizer vaxxed people to get best protection against Omicron appears to be getting a Pfizer or (better still) Moderna booster at 12 weeks out from the 2nd jab. This will like push up the efficacy against Omicron to about 76% , is better than AZ is against Delta. A Moderna booster will increase this into the mid to high 80%s band.
