REST OF AUSTRALIA'S DELTA WAVE OUTSIDE NSW

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

VIC

The daily local covid (Delta) case count surged to 1312 new local cases overnight , 1017 mystery cases, and 5 deaths o/night.
Total LOCAL CASES in Victoria's Delta Wave = 112399.

Omicron variant has arrived in Victoria . There is now 1 known cases of OMICRON in Victoria & at least 2 suspected cases.
Victoria has recorded its first confirmed Omicron case in an international traveler currently isolating in a Melbourne quarantine hotel, while two other cases in the community are under investigation.
Marta Pascual Juanola reports that the community cases, in the cities of Casey and Brimbank, are not believed to be linked to the international traveller.
Authorities have contacted their household contacts who have also tested positive and are trying to determine the source of the infection. Genome sequencing is under way to confirm whether they have contracted the Omicron variant.
Contact tracing was ongoing and would likely lead to more close contacts, authorities said.

Katherine, Binjari and Rockhole released from COVID lockout as NT records 2 new local cases.

The new cases are the mother of a three-year-old girl from Katherine who tested positive to COVID on Monday, and an infant who is a household contact of the girl.

A mask mandate remains in place in Greater Katherine,

Katherine has been subject to some form of COVID restrictions since the NT outbreak began on November 4, after a 26-year-old man in the region tested positive to the virus.
Wastewater in Katherine's Bicentennial Road catchment area is still testing positive to COVID, but Ms Fyles said the signal strength was weakening.
"We do expect possibly some more positive cases, but those [close contacts] are all in appropriate quarantine, as I understand," she said.

A woman in her 50s has died inside Howard Springs, Ms Fyles said the death was not COVID-19 related.

AUSTRALIAN OMICRON OUTBREAK

09 December 2021

OMICRON WHAT WE KNOW
Researchers have now proposed splitting the omicron lineage, known as B.1.1.529, into two sublineages: BA.1, for the version of omicron that was initially identified, and B.2, for the newfound version. The split was suggested and implemented within the last few days on Cov-Lineages, an online system used to document SARS-CoV-2 lineages and their spread.
"There are two lineages within Omicron, BA.1 and BA.2, that are quite differentiated genetically," Francois Balloux, the director of the University College London Genetics Institute, told The Guardian. "The two lineages may behave differently," although that has yet to be confirmed.
One key difference between the two sublineages may make BA.2 slightly harder to track, The Guardian reported.

That's because BA.1 has a "deletion" in the gene that codes for its spike protein, which the virus uses to infect cells. This deletion, called 69-70del for short, eliminates six bases from the overall RNA sequence, which in turn deletes two "building blocks" from the final spike protein, according to the American Society for Microbiology.

PCR tests scan for multiple genes on the coronavirus, including this spike protein gene, but variants with 69-70del won't test positive for the spike. Instead, they cause the PCR test to display an error that reads "S gene target failure." This quirk actually makes the variants with 69-70del, namely omicron and alpha, easier to spot on PCR. After flagging such cases, scientists then run the samples through a full genomic analysis, to confirm which variant caused a given infection.

"The S-gene dropout was critical to get that quick view in many different parts of South Africa," and thus track the spread of the BA.1 sublineage, Sarah Otto, a professor in evolutionary biology at the University of British Columbia, told the Financial Times. But BA.2 does not carry the 69-70del mutation, meaning it won't stand out from other variants on standard PCR tests and scientists may need to look harder to find it.

So far, there have been seven cases of BA.2 reported globally, with the cases appearing in South Africa, Australia and Canada, according to The Guardian.

While there are a number of differences between the two omicron sublineages, there's no immediate reason to think that one will behave differently from the other, David Stuart, a professor of structural biology at Oxford University, told the Financial Times. "I don't think there's any reason to think that the new outlier is any more of a threat than the form of omicron that's knocking around at the moment in the U.K., but it is terribly early," he said.

Omicron Detections in NSW
There is now a total of 42 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant in NSW.
To date, no Omicron cases have been admitted to hospital in NSW for treatment of COVID-19.

Omicron Detections in VIC
2 more suspected community cases of the Omicron variant have been uncovered in Victoria, with contact tracers racing to find their source. The health department on Thursday confirmed genomic testing is underway on another two cases, in the cities of Brimbank and Wyndham, who returned results with the S gene dropout, a signature of the new variant.
Melbourne Airport has been put on alert after traces of the Omicron super variant were found in the wastewater - as Victoria records four suspected cases of the highly infectious strain.
'The samples from two airport catchments were collected on 1-2 December and are consistent with a known suspected case of the Omicron variant who visited the airport,' the health department said.
Authorities say they are speaking with the suspected case and notifying any close or casual contacts.
'A number of contacts have been identified and instructed to quarantine for seven or 14 days based on their vaccination status,' they said.

NSW health authorities say 44 people who went to a pub trivia night in Sydney's inner west, have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Sydney Local Health District says anyone who was at the Oxford Tavern in Petersham between 4pm and 10:30pm on Tuesday, November 30 is considered a close contact.
They are being told to get tested immediately and self-isolate.

This comes as an investigation is underway into a COVID-19 outbreak among passengers on board a weekend party boat cruise on Sydney Harbour.
5 people have tested positive so far, with early tests showing two of them are likely to have the Omicron strain of the virus.
Around 140 others who were on board the boat have been told to also get tested and isolate, pending further advice.

The Northern Territory has recorded three new COVID-19 cases overnight.
"The first case is a household associate of the previous two cases from Katherine East; a female teenager who was unvaccinated," NT Chief Minster Michael Gunner said.
"The second case, the fully vaccinated woman in her 80s, was a close contact of a previous positive case that arrived from London."
Mr Gunner said both women were in home quarantine and were now in supervised quarantine in Howard Springs. The Chief Minister said the third case was a recent arrival from Sydney, a fully vaccinated man in his 30s who had travelled overseas.
He was intending to enter home quarantine but tested positive via a rapid antigen test on his arrival at the airport and was immediately taken to Howard Springs, where the man also returned a positive PCR test..
Mr Gunner also outlined plans to ease the NT’s border restrictions further. From December 20, fully vaccinated travellers arriving in the NT from COVID-19 hotspots will no longer need to home quarantine."We know that the 20th of December is our biggest step so far," he said. "You won't have to quarantine but there are still rules and you have to keep getting tested for anyone planning to come to the Territory."

Arrivals will need a COVID-19 test prior to their arrival and be tested twice more after they reach the Northern Territory. Mr Gunner said from December 20, the NT would no longer be using its "red spot" system for COVID-19 hotspots. "Every part of Australia will be treated the same and every fully vaccinated arrival to the Territory where the same simple rules to follow," he said.

New arrivals will need to have evidence of a negative PCR test within 72 hours prior to their arrival in the NT, take a second PCR test in the first 72 hours of their arrival and then another test on day six.
"Three tests no more," Mr Gunner said. Arrivals will need to stay in a "high vaccination zone", such as Darwin, for 14 days after their arrival.

Unvaccinated Territorians will need to undergo 14 days of supervised quarantine at their own cost.
Unvaccinated interstate residents will not able to enter the NT, Mr Gunner said.

Due to the occurrence of community transmission of COVID-19 and persistent positive wastewater results in Katherine East, targeted COVID-19 testing stations have been established to help identify undetected cases.

The new Chief Health Officer Direction is effective immediately and requires those residents in the affected area to be tested for COVID-19.
The affected area includes the identified residential properties on:
Maluka Road
Hudspeth Place
Frangipani Court
Acacia Drive

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

WA & TAS recorded 0 CASES & recorded zero delta deaths..
No known cases of OMICRON in WA and TAS.

West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has not ruled out delaying the reopening of borders because of the Omicron variant.
The premier says he will await further information at Friday's national cabinet meeting before committing to a firm date for rejoining the nation.

WA's double-dose vaccination rate is expected to reach 80 % fully vaxxed +16yos in coming days, with a specific reopening date to be set after that point.

Mr McGowan has flagged the borders will reopen in late-January or early-February when the vaccination rate is expected to reach 90 per cent.
But he equivocated on Thursday when asked if the emergence of the Omicron variant could result in the reopening date being pushed back.

QLD recorded zero delta deaths..

The Queensland government has ruled out imposing COVID-19 restrictions on the Gold Coast after six new local cases in the region, as the state prepares to open its borders.
All six cases, and a seventh which is under investigation, were recorded on the Gold Coast on Friday.

Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says the virus is likely spreading in the community, but new restrictions aren't on the cards.
She says local cases will rise when quarantine is scrapped for vaccinated domestic travellers who test negative from Monday."Today is the day that we've been planning for," she told reporters on Friday morning."I can report that we have new community cases here on the Gold Coast and a number of incursions."
Ms D'Ath said face masks were "strongly recommended" and she urged people to check-in and get tested.
But there was no suggestion of any new restrictions, with a long-standing face mask mandate scrapped a month ago, and the last lockdown, in Cairns, now more than four months ago.
Ms D'Ath said a new border pass application system would likely go live on Friday or Saturday, when checks and measures are in place to cope with a huge influx of travellers.

One of the new cases is a partially vaccinated man in his 20s, who recently moved to Queensland from NSW and has been infectious for five days.
A close contact of that man has also tested positive.

A woman who works at Mullumbimby in NSW, and her partner and their child - who goes to Broadbeach State School - have also testing positive.
The woman is fully vaccinated and initially tested negative, before her second test came back positive. She's been infectious for eight days, while her partner was infectious at a vaccination centre while getting his second jab.Their second child, who attends Miami State High School, has tested negative.
A fully vaccinated Gold Coast disability worker has also tested positive after going to Byron Bay to play in a band. He's been infectious in the community for five days, while three of his band mates have since travelled to Western Australia with Queensland notifying authorities there.

Virus exposure sites have been listed at Ashmore, Broadbeach, Currumbin Waters, Elanora, Mermaid Beach, Miami and Tugun.
Queensland also recorded 2 new interstate-acquired cases in home quarantine and 1 new infection in hotel quarantine on Friday.

There is a total of 45 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant in NSW.

There were three new cases confirmed with the Omicron variant overnight, and more are expected as the results of genomic testing is confirmed.
The public is being advised of two Sydney venues, visited by confirmed cases of COVID-19 likely to have the Omicron variant.
The venues are the Cult Nightclub in Potts Point, and the Albion Hotel in Parramatta. Both venues have been visited by confirmed cases of COVID-19 linked to the previously reported outbreak on a party boat cruise on Sydney Harbour on Friday 3 December. It is likely some of these cases have the Omicron variant of concern. Anyone who attended the venue below at the times listed is considered a close contact.

To date, no Omicron cases have been admitted to hospital in NSW for treatment of COVID-19.

A man in his 80s from south western Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital. He was a resident of the Gillawarna Village Aged Care facility, where he acquired his infection. He had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions. This is the second death linked to this facility.
A man in his 80s from eastern Sydney died at St Vincents Hospital. He had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions.
A woman in her 70s from the Riverina region died at Albury Base Hospital. She had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health condition.

The daily local covid (Delta) case count was 1193 overnight , 940 mystery cases, and 13 deaths o/night.
Total LOCAL CASES in Victoria's Delta Wave = 116018.
Victoria is now 92 % FULLY VAXXED for everyone aged 12 and over.

Premier Daniel Andrews has, meanwhile, made his first pandemic declaration since new public health laws came into effect.
He confirmed in a statement on Friday that the mechanism would come into effect at 11.59pm on December 15, when the current state of emergency expires.

Mr Andrews consulted with Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton and Health Minister Martin Foley before making the declaration, with Professor Sutton noting the widespread community transmission of DELTA VARIANT in the state and thousands of active cases who require care, ALONG WILL GRAVE CONCERNS regarding as yet undetected local spreading of OMICRON VARIANT ( both types ) in Melbourne in particular and it's potential impact since it's much more transmissible than DELTA , and capable of evading the immune responses of both recovered covid cases and fully vaxxed people ( believed a 40 fold reduction in protection ) , and uncertainty about OMICRON's severity and lethality.

11 December Delta in AUSTRALIA continued

NT recorded 1 LOCAL CASE, 0 mystery case included..Their LOCAL total in this output is 70. ( count from yesterday amended by NT health ).
NT recorded zero delta deaths..
The Northern Territory has recorded one new local COVID-19 case linked to the Katherine cluster, Health Minister Natasha Fyles says. Ms Fyles said the new case was a man in his 20s who tested positive to the virus during a COVID-19 testing blitz in Katherine East. It brings the total cluster in the current outbreak to 68.
She said authorities were concerned by COVID-positive wastewater detected in Beswick and Barunga, two remote communities east of Katherine.“This is a concerning development to health authorities, as we weren’t expecting that,” she said.
The community of Beswick, which Ms Fyles said has a vaccination rate of 64 per cent, will go into a three-day lockout from 2pm today. "We'll be sending our rapid response team down to Beswick and they'll go into a 72-hour lockout and we'll be providing vaccinations to really lift that rate," Ms Fyles said.
Barunga, which has a higher vaccination rate of about 91 per cent, will be subject to a mask mandate for the next three days.
An undetected COVID-19 case could be in Alice Springs, say authorities
Wastewater in the Gillen and Northside catchments in Alice Springs has also tested positive to COVID-19, Ms Fyles said.

Alice Springs is about 1,183 kilometres from Katherine, where most of the cases in the latest outbreak have been based. Ms Fyles said at this stage authorities "[couldn't] explain" the results, although they could have come from people undertaking home quarantine in Alice Springs who have COVID-19 but had not yet tested positive.
She said that, given the town's high vaccination rate, no COVID-19 prevention measures would be put in place, but "we are watching Alice Springs very closely".
Dr Pain said it was possible a COVID-19 case was moving about the community in Alice Springs. "We must be very cautious over these next 24-48 hours," he said.
Restrictions in 'high-risk' Katherine East streets to drop tonight .Ms Fyles said the Chief Health Officer's direction requiring residents in four Katherine East streets to get tested before leaving home will expire at 6pm tonight.

WA & TAS recorded 0 CASES & recorded zero delta deaths..
No known cases of OMICRON in WA and TAS.

Western Australia will tighten its border controls with Queensland due to a Delta outbreak there, just days before WA sets a date to reopen its borders.
Premier Mark McGowan says Queensland will be elevated from a "very low risk" to a "low risk" jurisdiction from 12.01am on Monday.

That means travellers from the Sunshine State must be fully vaccinated, test negative and complete 14 days' quarantine on arrival in WA.

Anyone already in WA who's been to a Queensland exposure site will need to quarantine for 14 days and get tested.

Mr McGowan says the tightening is needed because Queensland has recorded seven local cases in the last two days and is easing its border restrictions on Monday.
"With community spread now being experienced in Queensland and its expected move to relax border controls and quarantine requirements with COVID-positive jurisdictions, in the midst of Omicron, we need to take caution and strengthen our border controls with Queensland," he said in a statement on Saturday.

He has promised to reopen once 90 % of eligible West Australians ( > 12yo) are fully vaccinated and said he will set a date once WA hits 80 %.

Some 88.42 % of WA residents older than 12yo have had one dose of a vaccine and 79.62 % are fully vaccinated.

Mr McGowan said he expects to set the border opening date in coming days, possibly this week."As I've said, in coming days we expect to reach our 80 per cent double dose vaccination rate which means we can review the situation and confidently lock in a future date to proceed with our Safe Transition Plan next year," he said. "This is a timely reminder to get vaccinated. It will protect you, your family and your community."

OMICRON IN AUSTRALIA

SA Health has confirmed two local COVID cases reported in the state on Friday are the Omicron variant.

Omicron variant in NSW.

IMPACT OF OMICRON ON AUSTRALIA"s VAXX BOOSTER SHOT ROLLOUT
The federal government has acted on advice from the vaccine advisory body ATAGI, and the wait for a booster has been reduced from six months after a second vaccination to five.

The decision to provide earlier access has been made to help slow the spread of the new variant — which does not appear to cause more serious illness — and to guard against any waning immunity over time.

ATAGI had been considering whether to reduce the waiting period in line with the UK government.

Just last week it advised there was not enough evidence to support such a move.

"There is no evidence to suggest, at the moment, that an earlier booster does of the current covid-19 vaccines, will augment the protection against the omicron variant," Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly said on December 3.

But much more has been learned about the Omicron variant since then, including its transmissibility, and the advice has now been changed.

On Friday, premiers and chief ministers were advised by medical experts that the Omicron variant did not appear to be causing more serious illness, although there is still more to be learned.

More than 670,000 Australians have already received a booster shot.

Moderna receives final approval
ATAGI has also given the final approval required for Moderna to be offered as a booster shot, alongside Pfizer.

The Moderna booster dosage is half the usage dosage and will be accessible at community pharmacies and health clinics, subject to availability.

The government recently bought 25 million doses of the Moderna vaccine, with 15 million of those slated to be used in the first half of 2022 as boosters.

"Australia's whole-of-population booster program is supported by more than 151 million Pfizer, Novavax and Moderna vaccines secured for supply into the future," Health Minister Greg Hunt said.

"Australia is well prepared to provide booster doses as approvals are provided by the medical experts."

The Northern Territory has recorded three new local cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, including in a four-year-old boy, as a 72-hour mask mandate comes into place in Tennant Creek and five remote communities after positive wastewater results.
Northern Territory Health Minister Natasha Fyles on Sunday said all of the new cases had been recorded in the town of Katherine, where the Territory's local outbreak began more than a month ago.
A 4-year-old boy from the Katherine East area, who is a family contact of a case detected last week, is one of the people who has tested positive.
Ms Fyles said the boy has been in the Howard Springs quarantine facility throughout his infectious period.
2 other teens in Katherine East, aged 15 and 17, have also tested positive. Ms Fyles said the teenagers, who it's believed are not related, tested positive during a targeted COVID-19 "testing blitz" in the Acacia Road area, where last week's positive case resides. She said the pair - one girl and one boy - would be transported to Howard Springs to undergo quarantine.
The new local cases take the number connected to the Katherine region cluster to 71.
About 60 people have been identified as close contacts of the latest cases, and Ms Fyles said it was likely some of them would test positive.

NSW-Queensland border reopened to hotspot states today.
Police warned drivers to expect long delays on the New South Wales-Queensland border which reopened in the early hours of this morning.

Queensland Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll estimated that as many as 50,000 cars were likely to cross the border at the Pacific HW , New England HW and on regional cross border roads.

For the first time in five months, fully-vaccinated travellers are be able to enter Queensland by road or air without needing to quarantine. They are required to return a negative COVID test within 72 hours of their arrival and get tested again five days after arriving.Fully-vaccinated border residents will be able to move freely although they will need to obtain a pass.

Those who aren't fully vaccinated can only enter by air and will have to spend 14 days in hotel quarantine ( at their own cost ).

South Australia has dropped the extended quarantine requirements for close contacts of Omicron cases.

SA has at least two confirmed cases of the new variant, and its arrival last week prompted the state government to increase the isolation requirement for close contacts at exposure sites from seven to 14 days. But after a meeting of chief health officers from across the country on Monday, SA's Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier said the isolation requirement for those fully vaccinated would return to seven days.

They are still required to have a day 13 virus test, must not attend high-risk settings or COVID management plan events and must wear a surgical mask when around other people.
Anyone unvaccinated will still be required to quarantine or 14 days.

"This change will align with our response to Delta cases in South Australia and will be more practical to implement given that at some point it will not be possible to differentiate between these strains as the case numbers increase," Professor Spurrier said.

WA recorded 1 CASES , 0 LOCAL cases, and 0 delta deaths..

Western Australia’s premier, Mark McGowan, has announced the state’s border will reopen on 5 February when double-dose vaccination is predicted to hit 90%, allowing for quarantine-free travel to the state.

13dec2021-wa-opening-up-plan-and-date.png

Why was 5 February chosen?
The date was chosen based on advise provided by health professionals and projections that 90% of people older than 12 will be double-dose vaccinated by 5 February. “We are very confident that by 5 February we will hit double-dose vaccination for the entirety of Western Australia,” McGowan said.

What are the vaccination rates like in WA?
Statewide, more than 200,000 people still need to get their second vaccination dose to reach the 90% mark.

Currently, 57% of the Aboriginal population have received their first dose and about 40% are fully vaccinated.
More than 90% of people aged 50 and over are fully vaccinated; about 82% of the 40-something population are fully vaccinated; 75% of 30–40-year-olds are fully vaccinated; for the 20-something cohort, 60% are fully vaccinated; for those aged 16 to 19 years, 63% are fully vaccinated; and half of all kids aged 12 to 15 have been vaccinated.

WA Premier Mark McGowan said if the regions with low vaccination rates don’t reach the 80 per cent double dose mark by February 5 when borders reopen, they will be subject to “enhanced public health measures”.

Mr McGowan called out specific regions with low vaccination rates including the Kimberley, Goldfields, and the Pilbara. “Proof of vaccination requirements will be expanded to pubs, bars, dine in service at restaurants and cafes, bottle shops, other indoor entertainment venues, gyms, and fitness centres,” he said. “Mask wearing will be required at other indoor venues that do not require proof of vaccination.
“And no air travel into the region will be permitted without proof of vaccination for people aged 12 and over.”

AUSTRALIAN DELTA WAVE continued.

NT's worst day of the entire pandemic ,recorded 17 cases , of which 16 are LOCAL , 0 mystery case included..Their LOCAL total in this output is 90.
NT recorded zero delta deaths..

14 of the new cases are from households in four streets in Katherine East, where a testing blitz had been taking place.

Of those 14 cases,
8 are children under 12,
5 are aged in their 20s, 30s or 40s,
and 1 is a 70-year-old woman.

The remaining 2 cases — a teenage boy and a man in his 70s — are already in quarantine.
There was also one positive case from an international repatriation flight.

The CEO of Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation is concerned by the detection of COVID-19 in Tennant Creek's wastewater, while the Northern Territory Government is criticising low testing rates in the town.
A 72-hour mask mandate was implemented in Tennant Creek and five remote communities yesterday, where there were no known cases of COVID.

Anyinginyi's Barb Shaw said the wastewater detection was "alarming", but it's something they have prepared for. "And so then it was just a matter of putting thing in motion that needed to be done immediately after that announcement," she said.

Speaking on ABC Radio Alice Springs this morning, Health Minister Natasha Fyles said a rapid response team has been deployed to Tennant Creek, including staff from Alice Springs. "We've sent teams... to provide support for the testing and vaccination at the hospital," she said.

Ms Shaw said Tennant Creek's two-dose COVID-19 vaccination rate of 69 % was a "major concern", just a week out from the opening of NT borders. "We'll keep pushing, but we've certainly got some communities out in the regional areas... where hesitancy still remains."

"But we're focusing on those communities where we've got teams going out, and people are actually staying there for long weeks to be able to do that push."

While acknowledging Tennant Creek's double-dose figure was low, Natasha Fyles said 83 % of people had received their first dose. "So it is important to acknowledge the efforts of people that have come forward," she said.

Western Australia’s premier, Mark McGowan, has announced the state’s border will reopen on 5 February when double-dose vaccination is predicted to hit 90%, allowing for quarantine-free travel to the state.

AUSTRALIAN OMICRON OUTBREAK

13 December 2021 NSW
There is a total of 64 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant of concern in NSW.

There were 9 new cases confirmed with the Omicron variant overnight, and more are expected as results of genomic testing are confirmed.
NSW Health has updated its advice for The Argyle House nightclub in Newcastle after an escalation in COVID-19 transmission at the venue.
So far, 84 people linked to the nightclub have tested positive to COVID-19, 60 of these overnight. A number of these cases are likely to be the Omicron variant.
All 680 people who checked in using the QR code to attend the venue from 9pm on Wednesday 8 December to 3am on Thursday 9 December have been assessed as close contacts and must immediately get tested and isolate for 7 days.
NSW Health is appealing for anyone who did not check in using the QR code to also urgently get tested and isolate, and for their friends to ensure other potential attendees are aware of this advice. Given the high transmission of COVID-19 at the venue, HNE asks contacts of anyone who attended to also immediately get tested and isolate until they and the close contact tests negative.

NSW = 64
ACT = 5
NT = 1
QLD = 3
VIC = 3 + 7 POSSIBLES
SA = 2
TOT OMICRON = 78

LOOKING AT COMPARABLE NATIONS WRT VAX COVERAGE OVERSEAS.
Denmark and the UK both tracking about the same Omicron growth rate (~1.8 day doubling time). Still tracking to have a massive wave around Christmas. 400-500% advantage over Delta.
To put this severe growth into perspective, in the UK/Denmark you are about 10x more likely to be infected with Omicron today than you were one week ago.
A week from now, 10x more likely than today.
Two weeks from now, 100x more likely than today.

NEED FOR BOOSTERS TO COMBACT SEVERE OMICRON ILLNESS

AZ efficacy is extremely poor against Omicron. Improves with a Pfizer or Moderna Booster.
Pfizer efficacy takes a big it ( becomes like a flip of a coin ie probably of breakthrough severe Omicron illness becomes excessive ), a Pfizer booster improves efficacy to good levels against Omicron.

found that sera from vaccinated individuals neutralized the B.1.1.529 variant to a much lesser extent than any other variant analyzed. Neutralization capacity against #Omicron was maintained best against sera of “infected + 2x vaccinated” or “2x vaccinated + infected”

ref : SARS-CoV-2 B.1.1.529 variant (Omicron) evades neutralization by sera from vaccinated and convalescent individuals

For Pfizer , beyond 14 weeks out from the 2nd jab the efficacy against Omicron is under 50% SO UNACCEPTABLE.
The sweetspot for Pfizer vaxxed people to get best protection against Omicron appears to be getting a Pfizer or (better still) Moderna booster at 12 weeks out from the 2nd jab. This will like push up the efficacy against Omicron to about 76% , is better than AZ is against Delta.

A Moderna booster will increase this into the mid to high 80%s band.

NSW
NSW recorded 804 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

A total of 85 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant of concern have been confirmed in NSW. However, NSW Health expects further Omicron cases to be confirmed in the coming days as results of genomic testing are confirmed.

NSW Health remains concerned about the escalation in COVID-19 transmission in the Newcastle area, with venues linked to cases who are likely to have the Omicron variant of concern.

NSW Health last night alerted the public to a new venue in Newcastle, Finnegan's Hotel, 21 Darby Street, and also remains concerned about the escalation in COVID-19 transmission at The Argyle House nightclub in Newcastle.
Anyone who attended Finnegan's Hotel from 6.30pm Friday 10 December to 2.30am Saturday 11 December, is a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolate for 7 days. All household contacts of close contacts must also be tested and self-isolate until a negative result is received by everyone in the household.

Anyone who attended The Argyle House nightclub from 9pm on Wednesday 8 December to 3am on Thursday 9 December has been assessed as a close contact and must immediately get tested, and isolate for 7 days. Please then minimise your mixing with other people and avoid high-risk settings for the next 7 days.
An investigation is underway into whether a person believed to have sparked a COVID-19 outbreak at a nightclub in Newcastle breached self-isolation laws.
NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard told ABC Radio Sydney this afternoon the cluster seeded at a large event at The Argyle House last Wednesday had now grown to more than 200 cases. Hazzard has instructed that person to be looked at very closely because it would appear that person failed to comply with health's requirements on a seven-day self-isolation and that person's went off to the Argyle nightclub in Newcastle," Mr Hazzard said.
NSW CMO Dr Chant said of the 650 people who attended the super-spreading event at the Argyle House nightclub, about 150 had tested positive to COVID-19 so far.

NSW Health is today reporting the death of a woman in her 60s from the Albury area in NSW who died at Goulburn Valley Health hospital in Victoria. She was not vaccinated.

Everyone aged 18 years and older may now receive a booster 5 months after receiving their second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
Booster shot options in Australia are Pfizer or Moderna ONLY.
Is strongly recommend that people aged 12 years and over who are severely immunocompromised have a third primary dose of vaccine from two months after their second dose. Talk to your GP for more advice.

Across NSW, 94.8 % of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 93.2 % are fully vaccinated.
Of the people aged 12 to 15, 81.4 % have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 77.7 % are fully vaccinated.

Of the 804 cases reported to 8pm last night,
224 are from Hunter New England Local Health District (LHD),
123 are from South Western Sydney LHD,
102 are from Western Sydney LHD,
99 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD,
85 are from Sydney LHD,

South Australia has recorded 12 new cases of COVID-19, including two healthcare workers who have visited and provided care at a number of residential aged care homes in Adelaide.
The cases include 4 women and 4 men aged between 20 and 60 and 4 children under 12.
Residents of the southern Adelaide town of Willunga say they are concerned about a lack of information about exposure sites connected to positive COVID-19 cases.

Willunga Primary School's end of year assembly was announced as an exposure site yesterday.

Willunga mother Melissa Whittlesea and her daughters Jazmine and Charlotte said they only found out someone infected with coronavirus attended the assembly from a friend.
"We haven't heard anything from SA Health so we just thought we'd do the right thing and go and get tested," she said.
"I was actually just really disappointed because we're all double-vaxxed and we've always done the right thing — worn our masks, we check in all the time, and it's just such an inconvenience at this time of the year."

The trio will have to quarantine for seven days from the assembly's date last Friday.

More than 400 children attend the school in Willunga, about 45 kilometres south of Adelaide's CBD and just south of the McLaren Vale wine region.

Unvaccinated people, which includes all children under 12, will have to quarantine for 14 days, ending at 12:01am on Christmas Day.
Willunga cases are the Delta strain,

Premier Steven Marshall said Chief Public Health Officer Nicola Spurrier had told him this morning that the COVID-19 case who attended Willunga Primary School had the Delta strain, not the Omicron variant.

"So, I think that's a huge relief to people in that local area that it was a Delta case down south, but we are going to continue to get cases in South Australia," he said.

There have been long lines of people waiting to get swabbed for COVID-19 at testing clinics in Aldinga Beach and Christies Beach.

NT recorded 4 LOCAL cases . . Their LOCAL total in this output is 94.
NT recorded zero delta deaths..
The Northern Territory has detected 4 new DELTA cases in the community as an outbreak spreads towards the West Australian border.
1 Case is from Katherine is linked to the NT outbreak, bringing the total number of cases to 88. The case is currently in the Centre for National Resilience and was not in the community while infectious.

The other 3 cases are unconfirmed, but Health Minister Natasha Fyles said they are very likely to be genuine infections due to the close contacts.
2 of those are in remote Timber Creek near the WA border, 225km east of Kununurra, and the other one is in Kalkarindji, 550km south of Darwin.
"Today's case numbers are nowhere near as high as yesterday but we do expect more cases in the coming days," Ms Fyles told reporters on Tuesday.

It brings the current outbreak to 88 cases but that is expected to rise to 91 later in the day once the three infections are confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory has called for Katherine and its surrounding area to be locked down to slow the spread.

It said vaccination rates are not high enough to be fully protective and more health workers were urgently needed in the area.Beswick will exit lockout as planned at 2pm today. There are now no restrictions on the reasons to leave home for people who are vaccinated and unvaccinated.
A mask mandate will be implemented or extended until 2pm on Friday, 17 December, for: Barunga, Beswick, Bulla, Daguragu, Katherine, Kalkarindji, Lajamanu, Manyallaluk, Pigeon Hole, Tennant Creek and Timber Creek. Face masks must be worn outside of the home when you are unable to maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres. Facemasks do not have to be worn while exercising or playing sport.

WA exposure sites listed as interstate truck drivers test positive to COVID-19
WA Health has updated its list of exposure sites after three truck drivers tested positive to COVID-19, after having spent time in WA last week.
Under the Transport, Freight and Logistics Directions (No 8) (www.wa.gov.au), drivers must have received a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to entering WA, and undertake a rapid antigen test at the WA border.

The first 2 drivers, who are both in their 30s, were travelling together and are fully vaccinated. They returned negative rapid antigen tests at the border prior to entry to WA on 9 December.
A 3RD truck driver in his 20s, who is also fully vaccinated, has also returned a positive COVID-19 result in SA. This truck driver spent time in WA on 9-10 December. The Department of Health is investigating whether he was infectious during his time in WA.

DELTA WAVE IN AUSTRALIA

15dec2021-CLUSTERS.png

Australia set a new VERY BAD record today , the new covid pandemic record highest national daily covid case numbers over night now 2875 , which beats the record set at the prior peak the current Delta wave set on 14 Oct 2021 of 2750 cases overnight nationally.
Australia's CUMULATIVE LOCAL DELTA + OMICRON cases as of today = 207432.

And masks are no longer mandated in NSW as of today despite very urgent and strong evidence / science based health advise from no less than NSW's CHO ( Prof Kerry Kant ) and the advise of leading expert epidemiologists and the AusMA , and of WHO experts.

15-DEC2021-MODELING.png

15-DEC2021-MYSTERY-CASES.png

Contact tracing has been overwhelmed again in NSW and Victoria , and to make it even harder , it's no long mandated in NSW to login with a QR Code in most venues , so contact tracers will have to rely on venue exposure alerts and the honesty of the people who were present to come forward for testing and to iso til given a negative PCR result ( a lot of people wont bother ).

Here the PRIMARY VAXX ( 2 doses was either AZ , Pfizer or to a smaller proportion Moderna ) ,
In response to Omicron's ability to evade immunity provided by

> or hybrid ( 1 vaxx dose after recovering from Wild Covid19, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta etc prior to Omicron )
> or even Full Vaxx w/ AZ , or Pfizer , or Moderna ,
the Fed health dept has shortened the gap between dose 2 or the recovered covid patient's natural immunity vaxx booster , from 6 months to 5 months.

The scientific evidence on vaxx neutralisation & immunity against Omicron indicates
* those fully vaxxed w/ AZ need an immediate Pfizer or Moderna BOOSTER jab for get robust protection and better vaxx efficacy against Omicron
* natural immunity is on the left … “convalescent” = practically no neutralization against #Omicron in this study by itself without vaccine. ,
* natural immunity boostered with one dose of AZ , or Pfizer , or Moderna wont provide protection against Omicron at all ,
* fully Pfizer or Moderna vaxxed who recieved their 2nd jab > 12 wks ago will have very poor and rapidly declining efficacy and protection against Omicron ( efficacy < 40% )[/img]

DELTA WAVE IN AUSTRALIA Continued (1)

NSW
NSW recorded 1,360 new cases of #COVID19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.

A total of 110 cases of COVID-19 with the Omicron variant have been confirmed in NSW.

NSW Health remains concerned about the escalation in COVID-19 transmission in the Newcastle area, with venues linked to cases who are likely to have the Omicron variant . It is likely that the overwhelming majority of the cases in Newcastle will be the Omicron variant .

NSW Health is today reporting the death of a woman from south western Sydney in her 90s who died at the Gillawarna Village Aged Care Facility in George's Hall, where she acquired her infection. She had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and had underlying health conditions. This is the third death linked to an outbreak at this facility.

Across NSW, 94.8 % of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 93.2 % are fully vaccinated.

Of the people aged 12 to 15, 81.4 % have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 77.8 % are fully vaccinated.

Of the 1,360 cases reported to 8pm last night,
424 are from Hunter New England Local Health District (LHD),
195 are from South Western Sydney LHD,
174 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD,
162 are from Western Sydney LHD,
115 are from Sydney LHD,
100 are from Northern Sydney LHD,
49 are from Central Coast LHD,
45 are from Northern NSW LHD,
26 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD,
19 are from Western NSW LHD,
17 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD,
8 are from Mid North Coast LHD,
7 are from Murrumbidgee LHD,
2 are from Southern NSW LHD,
1 is from Far West LHD,
and 16 are yet to be assigned to an LHD.

Actions by the NSW Premeir & Health Minister are at odds with the expert health advise by the CHO and expert epidemiologist and AMA as Kerry Chant VERY STRONGLY urges people to keep masks on in NSW as mandate scrapped and Delta & Omicron infections surge.
pidemiologist Mary-Louise McLaws, from the University of NSW, believes the mask mandate should have remained because "a third wave is coming".
"From a public health perspective, it's not the right precautionary call until we know much more about Omicron," she said.
"This may not be the safest decision because no-one knows when they're infectious before they start to get symptoms."
But the Premier wants the public's attention to shift away from case numbers and instead focus on hospitalisation rates and intensive care presentations.

NSW total local Delta Cases stands at 83798,
1128 Mystery cases today.
4 intls in quarantine.

Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says the 7 new cases emerged in the community in the 24 hours to 6.30am on Wednesday.
The cases are interstate-acquired but some have been infectious for five days in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Wide Bay, Goondiwindi and Townsville.

2 of them are being treated as Omicron because both were recently in the NSW city of Newcastle, where there's an outbreak of the variant.
2 visited the Argyle House nightclub, a superspreader exposure site, while another was in the Newcastle before flying on two packed flights to Brisbane and then onto Townsville on Monday. "We are certainly treating them as if they are Omicron," Ms D'Ath told reporters on Wednesday.

There had been intense media speculation that dozens of passengers on those flights would have to quarantine over Christmas after Queensland Health listed them as close-contact venues.
However, Ms D'Ath said it was the first case of Omicron to arrive on a domestic flight and classifying other passengers as close contacts was a precaution while authorities worked out what to do.
She said after talks with interstate counterparts, a decision was made to treat cases of the variant like any other form of COVID-19 on flights and only classify passengers in the immediate vicinity of cases as close contacts.

I just walked into my room and instead of looking at me, Swordtail's eyes darted directly to the ice cream drumstick I'm holding
