A BIG DROP in number of people coming forward to be tested yesterday ( masses of locals in Lake Macquarie, Newcastle , Pt Stephens , Mid North Coast flocked to beaches, the lakes and harbour in this spring's first real burst of summery hot sunny weather to surf, swim, fish, sunbath, and boat about , and picnic and have BBQs , so the drop in numbers of new local HNE cases is likely tied to this.
Same happened on Illawarra , ShoelHaven, on the Central Coast, in SE and N Sydney beaches and on the Sydney Harbour , right up the NSW coast before the afternoon storms hit.
Unfortunately with at best 60% of the popn fully vaxxed , it's likely many of these social gatherings were superspreader event.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS made by NSW Tourism Minister & by LetItRip Dom ( the new NSW Premier ).

Regional travel on hold
Sydneysiders will have to wait until November 1 until they can travel to regional NSW.
There are now 77.8 % of people aged 16 and over fully vaccinated, with more freedoms set to return when the state reaches 80 % coverage.
Regional travel was meant to be among the restrictions lifted at this milestone — expected to happen on Monday— but will now be delayed.

Mayors & residents from the regions are worried about the unequal vaccination rates between their areas and Greater Sydney, and how Delta will easily spread if regional travel was open to all.
In the Byron Bay local government area (LGA), only 47.1 % of those eligible to get a vaccine have had two doses.
The Hunter region's Cessnock LGA and the Clarence Valley LGA in the state's north also have low vaccination rates, at 58.4 % and 56.6 % respectively.

NSW border rule changes
From today, some restrictions are being eased for people entering NSW.
Travellers from the ACT and Queensland no longer need to complete a declaration form on entry or follow stay-at-home rules on arrival.
NSW Health said Queensland's low rates of COVID-19 community transmission meant it was no longer considered an affected area, and the same applied to the ACT.
However, people who arrive in NSW will be subject to the same travel restrictions as other people in NSW.
Those in regional areas can travel to other regions but not Greater Sydney. People in Greater Sydney cannot leave the area without a reasonable excuse.

An announcement was made by the Tourism Minister and LetItRip Dom that NSW will be opening up to all vaxxed international travellers ( w/ out mandatory quarantine ) which was promptly squashed by ScoMo who said only stranded Australians will be coming into Australia ( maybe by Xmas ) .
However on the strength of the NSW govts announcements Quantas and Virgin have scheduled intl flights into Sydney for November and big hotel chains were talking up reopening to international visitors.
Bet the cruise ship lines are rubbing the grubby mits together in expectation of filling cruise ships with NSW residents.

Last thing NSW needs is thousands of international tourists FLOODING IN who have zero respect for mask mandates, social distancing and who you can guarantee will bring Lambda and Mu strains into the country and a lot of who will be travelling on fraudulent Vax Passports and with faked negative test certificates.

Victoria has eased its border restrictions with New South Wales, with fully vaccinated travellers entering from red zones no longer needing to quarantine for 14 days.
Under the new borders that come into effect at 11.59pm on October 19, vaccinated travellers who enter Victoria must return a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours before entry.
Once they enter, they must get tested and isolate until they return a negative test result.
However, people who are not fully vaccinated - including those with medical exemptions - must still quarantine for 14 days upon arrival, as well as get tested before entering the state.

Fully vaccinated people coming from orange zones - like the ACT - will no longer be required to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

Mildura remainsi in lockdown with restrictions the same as those in metropolitan Melbourne (excluding the curfew) FOR ANOTHER WEEK..

ACT recorded recorded 35 new cases all mystery cases . Their total in this outbreak is 1371.

Statewide NSW has reached 80 % of eligible adults ( +16 yo ) fully vaccinated , restrictions will ease further for fully vaxxed on Monday 18 October.

Unfortunately the vaxx rollout has been very haphazard and patchy in regional NSW and many are a long way short of even 70 % +16yos fully vaxxed and as shown yesterday , even at 80% +16yos fully vaxxed , more the 1/3 of all residents remain UNPROTECTED or only PARTLY ( inadequately ) PROTECTED .

QLD Health has announced QLD's version of the National Covid Plan for returning to CovidNORMAL ( living with Delta ).
What COVID vaccine targets do we need to hit and by when?
Once 70 % of eligible Queenslanders – those who are aged 12 and over – are fully vaccinated, the restrictions placed on people who have been in New South Wales, Victoria or the ACT in the last 14 days will relax.
<< Tougher to achieve achieve than aiming for 16yo old and old only as per other states and the Federal Government Plan >>

This is predicted to happen in a month, on November 19 – but the date could be brought forward if the target is met earlier.

As of today, 60 % of Queenslanders are fully vaccinated.

Once 70 % of Queenslanders are fully vaccinated, those who want to enter the state will be able to do so, but only under the following conditions.

They must:

Be fully vaccinated
Arrive by air
Test negative to COVID 72 hours before arrival
Quarantine at home for 14 days
The second date to remember is December 17.

It's hoped that on that date 80 per cent of the state will be fully vaccinated.

Once that happens, it will be even easier for travellers from COVID hotspots to enter the state.

At that point, people who are fully vaccinated and have been to declared hotspots in the past 14 days can cross into Queensland by car or plane.

Those travellers will no longer need to quarantine, but they will need to have a negative COVID test within the previous 72 hours.

What are the rules for overseas travellers arriving in Queensland?
The rules for some international arrivals will also change once the state reaches the 80 per cent mark, slated for December 17.

Those flying directly into Queensland, who are also fully vaccinated and have received a negative COVID test within 72 hours, can do their 14 days of quarantine at home.

Anyone who does not meet these conditions will still have to complete 14 days quarantine in a government facility, including international travellers who fly into other states.

When will all COVID restrictions end?
This will happen when the state hits 90 % of Queenslanders fully vaccinated.

When Queensland will reach that target we don't yet know.

When we reach the 90 % milestone, border restrictions and quarantine requirements will no longer be necessary for fully vaccinated people.

This means domestic and overseas travellers won't need to quarantine if they're fully vaccinated.

Unvaccinated travellers will still be required to quarantine and will still need to meet requirements to enter the state.

NZ recorded A HUGE SURGE UP new ALL PANDEMIC NZ RECORD HIGH LOCAL to 94 delta cases overnight includes 25 mystery cases.
Total of local Delta transmissions is now 2128 .
0 delta deaths today in NZ .

New Zealand has hit its highest daily case number since the pandemic began. 94 new Covid-19 infections announced on Tuesday, as experts warned that cases would probably keep rising, and sustained high numbers could quickly push the health system to capacity.

Prime minister Jacinda Ardern said the rise in Covid cases was “incredibly hard,” and urged people to get vaccinated and to continue following the rules.

“We’re not powerless, we do have the ability to help keep cases as low as we can,” she said.

Related: Jacinda Ardern facing biggest challenge yet as New Zealand switches to Covid suppression

Case numbers in New Zealand are expected to continue to rise in the coming weeks. “We always know that a single day is just a point on a graph on a trend curve,” said epidemiologist Prof Michael Baker. “But taken with the other points [we’ve seen], we’re going to be in three digits soon - if not tomorrow then this week, probably.”

Health officials have so far been unable to link more than half of the cases announced on Tuesday to existing infections. The concerning rise in unlinked cases could indicate further, undetected spread in the community. Ardern said the outbreak had spread across the city, and there were now cases in 124 Auckland suburbs.

“There’s not much margin for error at the moment, in terms of the race between our vaccination program and the outbreak,” said Shaun Hendy, an epidemiologist and modeler for Te Pūnaha Matatini, on whom the government has previously relied for outbreak modeling. “It could go either way at this stage. If we don’t see numbers starting to stabilize or pull down in a couple of weeks, it’s likely that we’re looking at a much longer outbreak.”

As the outbreak grew, public health interventions like testing, tracing and isolating cases would start to falter, Hendy said. New Zealand’s contact tracing capacity was already approaching its limits. “We’re seeing more and more unlinked cases, which is telling us that the virus is well ahead of our contact tracers at the moment,” he said.

“One of the big concerns is that our track, trace and isolate [strategy] will stop making an impact, and we’ll see that virus really strip ahead of our vaccination program.”

“Your response actually gets worse as case numbers grow. You’re giving the virus an extra edge, once the outbreak gets large. In that case, the risk of it basically beating our vaccine rollout is quite high.”
< eg Sydney into NSW , then Melbourne in Victoria are cases in point >

The outbreak is increasingly hitting young people, with 12 people in hospital under the age of 39. The highest number of new cases on Tuesday came from the youngest age groups – those aged under 39 – which also have the lowest vaccination rates.

Ardern said vaccination efforts would increasingly have to focus on young people who “don’t think it is real, or that it affects them yet.” Because New Zealand opted to roll out population-wide vaccination by age band, most of those young people have had far less time to get vaccinated. Those aged 12 and up only became eligible to get a vaccine on 1 September.

Since the Delta strain arrived in New Zealand, it has been ripping through Māori and Pacific communities. Despite making up just 16.5% of the overall population, Māori have made up almost half, or 46% of cases over the last 2 weeks.
Of Tuesday’s cases, 39% are Māori and 14% are Pasifika. Toward the beginning of the outbreak it was concentrated in Pacific communities, who made up 60-70% of cases.

Māori affairs minister Peeni Henare urged Māori to get vaccinated. “I say to the Māori people, Covid-19 is on the doorstep of your houses. Do not let it enter,” Henare said. “The best course of protection still remains for us to vaccinate our people.”

The country is racing to increase vaccination numbers as the outbreak grows. As of Tuesday, 83% of the eligible (those aged 12 and up) population have had at least one dose, or 70% of the full population. 65% of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated with both doses, or 55% of the full population.

Vaccination rates among Māori and Pacific communities, particularly young people, were still lagging behind the broader population.

As case numbers rise, so too were the number of people hospitalised with the illness: 38 people were in hospital with Covid-19, and five people were in intensive care.

Hendy said that if cases rose slightly and then sustained triple digits, modelling showed the health system would quickly come under pressure.

New Zealand’s outbreak so far had had an unusually high hospitalisation rate, of around 10%. If that endured, emergency and ICU capacity could start to buckle. “It really wouldn’t take an awful lot more. A sustained rise in cases, a couple of weeks of triple digits with this first kind of hospitalization rate… [and] we’ll be under considerable strain in the healthcare system,” he said.

Baker said that the government’s pathway forward needed to be based not just on vaccine targets, but on giving a more precise idea of when the health system would reach saturation, and what measures would be required to prevent that.

Of Tuesday’s cases,
87 were in Auckland
and seven were in Waikato.
Both regions remain in a level 3 lockdown. The government has signaled it will release plans for those cities’ pathway forward on Friday, including a new pandemic management plan as cases rise.

The Ministry of Health said in a release: “Public health staff are continuing to urge anyone in Auckland to, please, get a test if they have symptoms of Covid-19, regardless of which suburb they live in. There are increased cases across the region, so everyone needs to remain vigilant.”

22 October - = Day 128 in the NSW, ACT & VICTORIA DELTA WAVE .

A very bad and VERY deadly day 2552 new delta cases spread across NSW , Vic and ACT , and 21 covid deaths .
Australia's local Delta cumulative total stands at 124,954 cases.

Greater Melbourne achieved 70% fully vaxxed (basis +16yos) yesterday , and according to the National Emergency Cabinet Vaxx Rollout and Opening Plan , was compelled despite recording 2189 local Delta transmissions overnight & 16 covid deaths to relax the Stage 4 Lk Dwn settings for Melbournians who are fully vaxxed .
Mildura LGA's Hard Lk Dwn was also relaxed to a stage 3 Lk Down ( same settings as rest of Regional Victoria.

Needless to say there are some very unset antivaxxers in Victoria who now find they are excluded from all those nice things like
> the ability to work in many face - face jobs, health care, aged care, schools, service jobs, in fact most jobs ( as being vaxxed are being mandated by the Vic govt, local councils, most major employers and most small businesses ) , their 70% Vaxx Appartide Day has arrived
> and social settings such going clubbing, to the gym, to community activities, to pub or coffee shops (shock horror !!).

ACT relaxed their Stage 4 Hard Lockdown today on reaching 80% fully vaxxed ( basis +16yos ).

Big surge in local delta cases in last 2 days in the Murrumbidgee LGA ( 86 new case pushing the LGA's total to 219 ) , very worrying considering the large aboriginal community in the Murrumbidgee LGA and the distance to hospitals with capacity to deal with severely ill Delta patients in ICU and on ventilators.

23 October - took the plunge .

Arranged for our GP to come to our home and give us our first PFIZER jabs today . Hardly even felt the needle , no adverse effects( allergic reactions ) .
Next jab in 3 weeks, and fully "protected" about 4 weeks after that.

So looking like we will be good to have visitors and have the grandkid here in December and @ Xmas / NY.
Providing the wheels don't fall off NSW's Delta wagon again ==> Delta Wave becomes a Delta Tsusami of the magnitude of what has happened in places like Ireland, UK, USA, Israel etc when they opened with large numbers of active Delta cases still spreading the virus around . If this is going to happen it'll start looking VBAD about Xmas.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
