WA COVID-19 update 14 January 2022
Exposure sites will continue to be updated on the HealthyWA website. People are encouraged to check this site regularly.
WA Health has reported 1 new local COVID-19 case and 8 travel-related cases since 8pm last night.
The new local case is a child, who is a household contact of a previously announced positive case. There is no community concern as the child has been in quarantine throughout their infectious period. WA Health encourages parents of children under 12 to get them vaccinated as soon as possible.
The Chief Health Officer has advised that case 1260, the woman announced on Wednesday as acquiring the virus from an unknown source, has now been linked to another case. Genome sequencing has connected the previously announced case of the Tasmania returned traveller with case 1260.
This was a result of comprehensive tracing by WA Health officials and is the reason WA Health is issuing new public health advice for exposure sites in Perth’s south.
New testing advice
Anyone who has visited any of the exposure sites in Atwell, Bentley, Bull Creek, Cannington, Jandakot, and Success should recheck the HealthyWA website for updated advice. For many of the sites in this area WA Health are now asking people to get tested immediately.
The public health advice also extends to anyone in the City of Cockburn or broader Perth metropolitan area experiencing symptoms to get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.
A full list of testing clinics is available on Healthy WA website. Metropolitan public testing clinics are open until 10.00pm tonight.
Interstate and overseas travellers
7 of the new reported cases acquired the virus interstate
and 1 case is related to an overseas traveller. All are in quarantine.

SA LOCAL DAILY CASES
14 January 2022 SA
There have been 5,679 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia today. There are currently 34,428 active cases in South Australia.
SA Health can confirm 2 women in their 90s, 1 man in his 60s, 1 man in his 70s and 2 men in their 80s, who tested positive for COVID-19 passed away in metropolitan Adelaide.
There are 246 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including 20 people in ICU and eight requiring a ventilator.
Of those hospitalised, 138 people are fully vaccinated, 23 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 85 have an unknown vaccination status.
Due to a reconfiguration of the data, 60 cases from yesterday have been removed from the total number of cases.
Regular genome sampling is taken to monitor the levels of Omicron within South Australia. 81% of samples taken returned an Omicron result.
Yesterday, 24,796 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 23.6% increase on the previous 24 hours.
Ambulance crews 'overwhelmed' as emergency patients left waiting for hours.Emergency patients across Adelaide were left waiting up to seven hours for an ambulance to arrive last night amid "overwhelming" strain on South Australia's health system, the union says.
At one point, there was a backlog of 42 life-threatening cases with no spare crews to attend them, with the SA Opposition saying it was the "worst ever night" in terms of pressure on the state's paramedics.
Ambulance Employees Association (AEA) secretary Leah Watkins said in one case a paramedic was forced to drive a family member to hospital because an ambulance never arrived.
"A paramedic last night had a call from their dad saying that their mum had collapsed at home, and that they called an ambulance, but it had been half an hour and no-one was there still," she said.
"They rushed around and the paramedic drove their mum to hospital themselves, because an ambulance still wasn't there after an hour.
"They were so frustrated saying, 'Thank God my parents have me as a resource to be able to call on to come round and help out, but what about all of those families that don't have that?'"
The union tweeted a video it said showed staff "desperately trying to dispatch ambulances" to call-outs.
Ms Watkins said the pressure peaked at 7:45pm, but that it had scarcely abated several hours later.
"Until midnight there were still 35 cases waiting. A few of those priority cases waited five hours, there was one that was waiting seven hours," Ms Watkins said.
"It was classified as … a life-threatening case that we should have been there for in 16 minutes."
The South Australian Ambulance Service (SAAS) has been contacted for comment.
Ms Watkins said she had taken the drastic step of writing to the coroner, because "things are so bad that it's in all likelihood now that we're going to see avoidable deaths in the community".
She said patients who called for assistance, but were deemed lower priority, were not attended to at all.
"The decision was made by SAAS that they were just going to call these people back and tell them an ambulance would not be coming, that they would have to find their own alternative," she said.
"Elderly people who have fallen or broken a bone, they're deemed as not life-threatening so last night they wouldn't have even received an ambulance."
The union said COVID had depleted ambulance staffing at a time when Omicron cases were putting huge strain on the health system as a whole.
A total of 26 COVID deaths have been reported in SA in the 52 days since borders reopened in November — significantly more than the 13 over 300 days that was forecast ahead of the state's COVID-Ready roadmap.
Earlier this week, paramedics took almost an hour to arrive to treat a severely scalded three-year-old boy during high demand for ambulances.
Premier Steven Marshall apologised for the 51-minute wait.
