NSW recorded 1043 local cases , bringing NSW's total to 51891 in 100 days .
Today mystery cases = 1043 ( 100% )
<== contact tracing in NSW is clearly still overwhelmed.
There were 11 DELTA deaths in overnight (10 in Greater Sydney) ,

ISH LHA fears that control of DELTA in Illawarra LGA has been lost as it's spreading too fast in underprivileged areas of the LGA.

Far West NSW LHA has recorded their 1st covid death of the pandemic ( a resident of Broken Hill ).

Across NSW, 84.1% of the over-16 population has received a first dose COVID-19 vaccine, and 56.6% are fully vaccinated to 11.59pm on Wednesday 22 September 2021.
The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 9,356,439 with 3,376,507 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 5,979,932 administered by the GP network and other providers to 11.59pm on Wednesday 22 September 2021.
This is a mix of AstraZenicer , Pfizer and Moderna. Moderna started rolling out in chemists this week.
There has been panicked rush to get Pfizer into the arms of 12 yo - 16 yo children now it's been approved for this grp in Australia.

Unfortunately us over 60s in NSW are NOT PERMITTED to get Pfizer or Moderna unless AZ is STRONGLY counterindicated by our GP. A large number of over 60s in NSW are refusing AZ , wanting the BEST AVAILABLE vaxx in their arms ( either Pfizer or Moderna here in Australia ).
Now the supply of Pfizer is again restricted because of the of parents wanting their children vaxxed and most states are running low on Pfizer stocks AGAIN.

Daily testing rates have fallen dramatically in NSW , especially in HOTSPOT LGAs throwing the daily local case number into double , supported by a lower positivity than expected because admissions to hospital covid wards are not showing the same rate of decline in cases as would be indicated by the daily local case numbers ( there in only a short lag of a few days between infection and admission to the covid ward , a longer lag is involved between infection and admission to ICU.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian has claimed the Delta Wave in NSW ( well Greater Sydney's SW, W, and SE has peaked ). We'll see , as it's not clear from positivities , and hospital admissions to covid wards that this has really happened

Correlate daily local cases against daily covid ward bed occupations
screenshot-552.png

and may be an artifact of reduced testing rates - people in SW and W Sydney , Cntl Coast, Illawarra ShoelHaven , Nepean Blue Mts and HNE are more working class and likely resistant to coming forward to be tested if exposed unless they feel ill as JOBKEEPER is no long er there to support them if ordered into Self ISO or Self Quarantine).

There are WELL BASED fears nationwide that the hospital systems in NSW and Victoria are close to being overwhelmed already with Delta admissions and that ICU's are in NSW & Vic are close to capacity.
Add now the vax mandates in NSW and Vic and yes some clinicians and nursing staff are falling foul of this and likely to end up stood down til they are fully vaxxed , causing reduced capacity in hospitals and ICUs because each bed requires a MINIMUM staffing level.

There were 31 new coronavirus cases on Sunday in Auckland, which has been in lockdown since mid-August, and 2 cases in the Waikato region, some 147 kilometres (91 miles) south of Auckland. Ardern said parts of the region will go into a 5-day lockdown.

While New Zealand was among just a handful of countries to bring COVID-19 cases down to zero last year and largely stayed virus-free until the latest outbreak in August, difficulties in quashing the Delta variant have put Ardern's elimination strategy in question.
Amid mounting pressure, Ardern has said her strategy was never to have zero cases, but to aggressively stamp out the virus. She has said strict lockdowns can end if 90% of the eligible population is fully vaccinated, contrasting with the current 46%.

Full vaccination will become a requirement for non-New Zealand citizens arriving in the country from Nov. 1, COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said on Sunday.
Air New Zealand said on Sunday it will require passengers on its international flights to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

5 October - = Day 111 in the NSW & VICTORIA DELTA WAVE .

A VERY BAD DAY in NSW & Victoria & ACT with 2406 new local Delta cases spread across NSW, Vic, QLD, and ACT , another 11 deaths overall.

Victoria's worse day of the entire pandemic with 1763 new local Delta cases recorded overnight, and Australia's worse state local overnight covid case load of the entire pandemic thus far.
Add changing of the guard in NSW Parliament with Silly Superspreader Gladys falling on her sword ( due to damaging corruption issues ) and Melbourne becoming the city that's spent the most days in lockdown so far.
The new NSW Premier sworn in today is Dominic Francis Perrottet , several NSW senior ministers have followed Gladys in deciding to fall on their swords , there will be byelections in several State Seats soon to elect new State members of parliament.

Despite what the right wing press are saying - no Australia has NOT Fallen. Far from it. Most of Australia is essentially ACTUALLY COVID FREE and thriving because they have state premiers who acted properly by closing state borders, and nuking outbreaks before they could spread.

VICTORIA
Victoria's Delta wave continues to deteriorate , at least there were no riots reported in Melbourne or regional Victoria towns today.
But contact tracing is revealing the riots have been sources of Delta super spreading as more and more cases of Delta that are linked and causal to the these events are coming forward for testing and treatment.

Victoria recorded 1420 new local cases overnight ( all mystery cases) and there is no sigh that Victoria's Delta Wave is peaking or near peaking any time soon , a big surge of 11 Delta deaths overnight ( biggest overnight death toll in Victoria since the 2nd Wave in 2020, total in Victoria's latest outbreak = 24884 .

REGIONAL VICTORIA
4 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Mildura, taking the total to 5 active cases after a stint of relative freedom from the virus for the north-western Victoria city.
COVID-19 response commander Jeroen Weimar said three of the cases were close contacts of each other with cross-border associations and one case was under investigation.
The cases come after a person tested positive at the Mildura Law Courts on Tuesday, October 5.

Ballarat emerged from its most recent 7-day lockdown 2 weeks ago but a string of new local cases has the region on edge again.
The city recorded 10 new Delta cases on Wednesday and 7 on Tuesday — Ballarat's largest daily increases during the latest outbreak.
There are now 29 active Delta cases in the regional city.

Victorian health officials are yet to solve a "mystery" coronavirus link that has put a small south-west Victorian town of Casterton "on edge".
VicHealth are investigating the movements of a Mount Gambier woman who tested positive to coronavirus in South Australia on Sunday. The unvaccinated woman told officials she visited the Victorian town of Casterton last week before returning home.
But it has since emerged that she may have also travelled to Melbourne and Casterton residents are unsure whether she visited the town at all.

Victorians trapped in hotspots interstate ( in NSW & ACT ) will be able to apply for permits to return from midnight tonight.

Victoria's Delta wave continues to deteriorate , at least there were no riots reported in Melbourne or regional Victoria towns today.
But contact tracing is revealing the riots have been sources of Delta super spreading as more and more cases of Delta that are linked and causal to the these events are coming forward for testing and treatment AND a number of police who where involved in protecting Victorians from the rioters / insurrectionists / health saboteurs have now been hospitalised with Delta .

Victoria recorded 1638 new local cases overnight ( all mystery cases) and there is no sigh that Victoria's Delta Wave is peaking or near peaking any time soon , 2 Delta deaths overnight , total in Victoria's latest outbreak = 26522 .

NSW's new Premier ( an Australian clone of Gov DeSantis / Gov Abbott/ ExPotus Trump / Brazil
Pres Bolsonaro ) is ignoring advise of the AMA , hospital senr ICU clinicians, the NSW CHO and is moving ahead on Monday with NSW's "Freedom Day" for fully vaxxed residents in NSW. This will not end well because the Delta Case load throughout Sydney, ISH, NBMts, NHE, SNSW is WAY TOO HIGH.
NSW CHO Dr Kerry Chant did NOT endorse NSW Premier Dom Perrottet's ( & ScoMo's ) roadmap out of lockdown.
Dr Kerry Chant did not support Dominic Perrottet's new roadmap out of lockdown and warned his plan came with risks, before the chief health officer was noticeably absent at a major Covid press conference.

The new NSW Premier on Thursday revealed he would make revisions to the roadmap - set out by his predecessor Gladys Berejiklian - as Sydney prepares to be freed from a gruelling four-month lockdown on Monday.

Mr Perrottet was surrounded by several colleagues, including Health Minister Brad Hazzard ( ex NONSTEM school teacher turned lawyer turned professional politician who has been out of his depth and resistant to all expert health advise give ) , but the familiar face of the chief health officer was nowhere to be seen.

One reporter went as far to describe Dr Chant's omission as 'disrespectful' and others questioned if she endorsed the accelerated roadmap.
Only glib answers were given and she has been forced to give updates only via the NSW Health FB site << ie she has been gagged >>

And now a new mutation / strain of Delta has evolved in SWSyd / WSYD and NSW Health is scrambling to track down where it came from.

What the new SYDNEY Delta strain found means for Australia and how it mutuated.
Not much known yet.
A new strain of the highly-contagious Delta variant has been found in SW & W Sydney ( and HNE ?) but epidemiologists say there shouldn't be any cause for concern just yet.

The state's chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed on Friday that the new form had been found in eight Covid-infected residents.

Seven of the eight cases with the new variant are from the same family - all of whom showed the same type of symptoms as the standard Delta strain.

'We've found a new strain of Delta that has different sequencing to the current strain circulating in Sydney,' Dr Chant said as she announced the latest figures in a live video address on Friday.

The state's top doctor ( CHO Dr Chant ) said investigations into the new discovery were still ongoing, but that the new strain appeared no more dangerous than the original form of Delta.

'There is no evidence that this new strain presents any MAJOR differences regarding transmission, vaccine effectiveness or severity,' Dr Chant said.

Professor Catherine Bennett, Chair of Epidemiology at Deakin University said it was possible the new Delta strain evolved within NSW or that it was brought in from a returning international traveller.

'There's nothing to suggest it's any better or worse, it might be that there's variation amongst the Delta variant,' she told Daily Mail Australia.

'There may be some differences in the Delta variant to have some not quite as bad strains and some that are more bad.

'This could have possibly evolved in Sydney but it may not compete with the other Delta strain we've seen already.'

Professor Bennett explained that every time the virus passed through a human there were slight changes and 'chance mutations' in the particles, meaning the new version of the virus could have originated in Australia.

These mutations can allow the virus to become more infectious and that variant becomes the new dominant strain.

While there is little known about the new form of Delta, Professor Bennett added it was unlikely that the different form of the virus would affect vaccination coverage.

'If health authorities found someone positive and they were really sick and everyone around them was very sick they'd be more anxious but we haven't heard anything like that,' she said.

'It could be more benign, if it really takes over it could be slightly more infectious but if it sits there with the other Delta strain, then it's just another form of the virus.'

She said health authorities would now be looking at the genomic sequencing of the new variant to see if it has appeared anywhere else in the world.

Clinical data will be utilised to determine whether or not the variant of the virus was brought into Australia or if it originated here.

VICTORIA
Victoria's Delta wave continues to deteriorate , at least there were no riots reported in Melbourne or regional Victoria towns today.

Victoria recorded the state's highest ever overnight local Delta case load of 1838 new local cases overnight ( all mystery cases) and there is no sigh that Victoria's Delta Wave is peaking or near peaking any time soon.
This is also the highest overnight local case numbers detected in any state of Australia for the entire pandemic.
Total LOCAL CASES in Victoria's Delta Wave = 28360.
Victoria also recorded 5 Delta deaths overnight .

Chief Health Officer (Prof) Brett Sutton announced residents in the Mildura Rural City Council area will enter a snap 7-day lockdown from 11:59pm, giving locals less than 7 hours notice.
Mildura's infections have risen in recent days, with 12 active cases in the area. 3 cases were confirmed on Friday afternoon, to be reported in Saturday's numbers.
'The public health teams are concerned about onward transmission in the Mildura and have determined that the 7-day STAGE4 lockdown is needed to limit growth in cases,' the CHO statement said.
Mildura will be under the same stay-at-home rules as Melbourne, excluding the curfew, with a 15-kilometre travel limit and visitors banned from entering people's homes.
More than 86 % of Mildura's eligible population ( 16yo and older ) have had one dose of a COVID vaccine, and 51 % have had two doses.
Prof Sutton urged Mildura residents to get vaccinated, look out for symptoms and get tested if any develop, with a rapid response testing team to be sent to the region for support.

He has also announced Shepparton and Moorabool's lockdown restrictions will ease from midnight on Friday, after the measures slowed growth of the virus in those areas.
Both town's restrictions will match the rest of regional Victoria ( Stage 3 ), with masks required inside and outside, and social gatherings at home banned.

PNG
Papua New Guinea hospitals hit by worst Covid wave yet.

Hospitals in Papua New Guinea are being pushed to the brink and morgues are overflowing, as the country suffers what health authorities say is the worst surge in Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began.
The country’s health care system has long been plagued by shortages of drugs, funding, an ailing infrastructure and a severe lack of health workers.

Now, major hospitals around Papua New Guinea have been forced to scale down vital medical services while at least one says it may be forced to close altogether.

As of Wednesday, the country has recorded a total of 21,896 Covid cases and 243 deaths over the course of the pandemic, according to the National Department of Health. The latest available breakdown shows a surge in cases, rising to 600 in the week beginning 20 September from 255 four weeks earlier. Deaths rose from two to 17. However, these figures may not reflect the severity of the outbreak due to the country’s low testing rate.

In Lae, the country’s second largest city, Angau general hospital is admitting an average of five new cases a day and saw 19 deaths in September alone. The city’s only public hospital, serving a population of 76,255, it has just 320 beds and a further 150 temporary beds.

Health authorities have been forced to turn the town’s stadium into a makeshift hospital and morgue.

“Seventeen patients are currently admitted at the stadium. Hospital management have decided to convert the newly constructed drug resistant TB ward into a Covid ward as the stadium is not set up properly,” said Dr Alex Peawi, head of the hospital’s emergency department.

“The emergency department is seeing only life-threatening emergency cases, while all other cases are referred to local clinics. People travelling in from Goroka [the capital of the neighbouring Eastern Highlands Province] are a big worry as people are not observing new normal measures. We are advising people to get vaccinated.”

In the Eastern Highlands, Covid-19 cases have reportedly overwhelmed Goroka provincial hospital with a doctor working there tweeting that it was a “crisis unfolding before our eyes”.

Dr Kapiro Kendaura, the province’s director of curative health services, described the situation as critical, with cases increasing every day. “Our Covid centre is always at capacity,” he said. “Our emergency department is always full with Covid patients. We have a shortage of man-power, with more than 30 staff down with Covid. We are in dire need of oxygen, amongst other things.”

Last week, a number of measures were put into place in the province to manage the surge, including a curfew, a ban on gatherings of crowds of more than 20 people, closure of main markets and betelnut markets.

In the Western Highlands province, the country’s most densely populated region, Mount Hagen general hospital is also on the brink of closure due to an influx of Covid-19 cases and an acute shortage of government funding, the Post Courier reported last week.

Only five of the hospital’s 20 isolation beds were still available, while two people died last week and two more were critically ill.

According to the provincial health authority, the hospital will be forced to shut down before Christmas if funding is further delayed. The hospital is the only public hospital in Mount Hagen and serves a population of 46, 256.

“We only have enough Covid-19 funds to support another two weeks’ work despite sending a request in late June to the Department of Health. This [shutting down of services] will commence next week with the closure of consultation clinics for any new patients and the discharge of others over a couple of weeks,” Jane Holden, acting chief executive officer, told the Courier.

Related: How conspiracy theories led to Covid vaccine hesitancy in the Pacific

In Oro Province, a 45-minute flight from the capital, Port Moresby, staff at Popondetta general hospital have been forced to use icebags in the morgue to help keep the freezer working. Speaking to EMTV, Oro governor Gary Juffa admitted that the state of the morgue was “deplorable”.

“We have a shortage of space. We are facing serious issues with the morgue and its capacity.”

Meanwhile, the country’s main referral hospital, Port Moresby General, announced this week that it would be scaling down its services due to the surge in Covid patients. According to the hospital, it currently has 50 Covid in-patients and the number is expected to rise over the next couple of weeks.

Surgeries are on hold indefinitely, consultation clinics are closed until further notice and pathology services, the TB clinic, emergency and radiology departments and all other essential services will also be affected.

Heath authorities have urged people to get vaccinated, however vaccination numbers are still extremely low and hesitancy is high due to misinformation. To date, 130,262 people have been vaccinated – a mere 1.3% of the country’s population.

Clapton is acclimating okay I think. He's quick as lightning so I'm not sure how much I should bring him out of his house yet. He's not at all interested in his salad though. I wonder if I should change what I'm giving him. Least he's eating his crickets.

Things to do:
Buy calcium powder
Material to raise surface for basking spot
Scenery decals for back of tank
