This is my new crested gecko he always has his tongue out licking things so I thought I'd name him Lickitong, the pokemon. He seems pretty healthy, a good weight and eating a lot of crickets. I was wondering though if it is like beardies where you can't leave the crickets in with them after they're done eating. Also, for some reason I can't seem to get the Repashy CGD to the right consistency, it's suppose to be 1/3 power 2/3 water right? As of yet I haven't seen my gecko have any of the power mix but I think that's because it keeps coming out watery. Lickitong doesn't really have any different colors on him other than the white on his tail so is he no morph then? Just a regular crested gecko? This is my first crested gecko so any tips would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

I've never fed Nova crickets, so I can't say there. But I would suggest it. Also, I've read you can mix it 2/3 powder and 1/3 water.Latly on the subject of feeding, feed insects sparingly, like at least once a week.Cresties can get addicted and will start holding out for them, I've read. As for Lickitung's color, Juvenile cresties can end up being a completely different color as adults I've read. The white on the tail is perfectly normal, btw.

Also, being a gaming nerd, I approve of the name Lickitung. S/he's probably living up to the name, too. :3

He looks a little like a tiger to me,or starting out to be one. I'm not expert as I just got into cresties myself, but looks kind of like a tiger pattern starting. As for the crickets, TerratheBeardie is correct. I'd hold off on any more crickets for now until you see him eating CGD consistently. I know it'll be hard, but it's better in the long run. A diet of just crickets could lead to MBD, so it's better to only give them as a supplement or treat once a week, or once every other week.

About mixing the CGD, I never really follow the directions. Both my cresties like theirs a little on the thicker side, so I just mix it accordingly. It's not really necessary to follow the directions. Try to get it the consistency of a milkshake. :)

Edit:
What are you using as a dish? The one in the picture looks a little tall. You'll want to use something that the gecko can easily see into and doesn't have to climb on to eat. I just use bottle caps ( water bottle caps for my baby and gatorade sized little cup for my almost adult).

I will make another batch today and try making it in a shallower dish with more mix and see if that makes a difference. I haven't seen him eat any of the CGD but I'm not sure if that's because the consistency is off or he doesn't like or I just haven't seen it. I'm just worried about him not eating because I SAW him eat a bunch of crickets but I haven't seen him eat any CGD. I will only give him crickets once and a while but there are still some crickets in his tank from the other day when I gave them to him should I leave them in there or take them out? Thanks so much for your help!

You're welcome! I would take them out because they can bite him just like with beardies. Or if you can't catch them, I'd put some cricket food in so they have something to eat and won't go after your crestie. One thing I've noticed with my cresties is they seem to like the CGD better after it's been sitting out for a day. Do you make fresh every night? I usually only put fresh CGD in every other night, and they seem to eat more that way.

Try not to worry too much if yours isn't eating his CGD right away. My smallest one took 3 weeks to start eating it, and even now it's only a lick or 2 and easy to miss. I'd try putting MUCH less CGD in. Like, coat the bottom of a bottle cap and that's it. That way you'll be able to really tell if he's eaten any or not, and you wont be wasting as much.

I was changing the CGD everyday because the consistency was off and I was hoping the new batch would be better. But I changed the food bowl as suggested and was able to get the consistency correct so it won't be a problem anymore. This morning i noticed my gecko buried himself in the paper towels and he has been like that for hours. Is that normal? Should I just let him be? Thanks again

Haha oh my goodness, that looks just like my Charmander   We must be the same kind of nerd because,as you can see, I have a pokemon name for mine as well! Where did you get yours??

As for what everyone here has been saying..
Yes,take out the crickets. They can and will bite your little one.
I do the exact same thing Katie does..I switch mine out every mon, wed, and fri..That way it can sit out and get to a thicker consistancy..and mine likes it after it sits out a day or two.
I have a small bottle cap myself,and I use 1/4 teaspoon..one of those,and about 1 1/2 of water..from there,you mix it,and it will get to the correct milk shake like consistancy..never fails!
Mine is a tad hit bigger than yours, and it took him a week to start eating it..what I did to encourage that is I put a little bit of CGD on his nose,he licked it right up,and from there,he's never stopped. I really couldn't tell he was eating it,because babies are small and really don't need that much. But the poop that is all over my KK let me know that he is eating it,,that's what you should look for. I also sometimes see some CGD around the bottle cap..messy eater
How long have you had s/he? Does it have enough hiding spots? Like fake leaves,a branch etc? It sounds like to me,it's trying to hide..They are nocturnal, and need to have a dark area to hide and sleep in during the day. That could be why its under the towels all day.

Pokemon names are the best! I have had him only for a couple days I have 2 vines on each side of his tank for him to play in which he is usually in. Thanks so much for your reply!

Yes they are! :) I love em!
And your very welcome..anything I can do to help!

Since you have only had it for a few days,it's probably still trying to adjust to the new surroundings. Don't be too worried just yet, they can last quite a while without eating.
And do the vines have any kind of leaves?? Vines are great, but without some kind of foliage, they can't hide as much and may get even more stressed out.

May I ask what you have the crestie in?? If you look a few threads down on here, you can see my little 'guy' and what he's in.

The vines have foliage and I have him in a cricket keeper. I got him at a local pet store that raises the pets they keep really well buy them from breeders and takes great care of their animals.

Good stuff good stuff :) Just had to ask lol sometimes having too big of an enclosure can make it hard for babies to find their food, but I don't think yours has that problem!
Good luck :) Cute little baby!

Hey! I'm planning on ordering a 4x2x2 for my next beardie but I'm worried about lighting. I have a UVA and a UVB but they are small (the UVA just being a bulb and the UVB being 12 ish inches?) My house is drafty so I need a strong light that puts off quite a good amount of heat, any suggestions?
