For the last few weeks Hugo stays under his blanket, until I wake him up. The lights come on at 7:00 am, but he stays under his blanket until 8:30am, when I uncover him. Once wake, everything is normal. He eats good, poops good. Around 6:00 pm he goes to his hide, and goes to sleep. He use to be up from 7:00-9:00. He is in a 4x2x2 viv with Arcadia D3 T5 12% 36" bulb. Basking bulb is ZooMed 50 watt. Basking temp is 105. Ambient temp 78. He has grown rapidly. He is 5 months 16.5" and 330 grams. He is eating mainly turnip greens, superworms, Phoenix worms, dubias. Should I just let him sleep, and allow him to wake up on his own? I know they need 12 hours of light, but this is hard to achieve with him sleepIng late, and going to bed so early. Sorry this is so long....first beardie, and still learning their behaviours. Any suggestions or reassurance would be greatly appreciated.
Scarlet does the same thing - she will sleep until after lunch if I let her. I do have to take her blankie off every day to get her to come out and bask and eat. Otherwise she is healthy and happy. She's just a sleepy head. I think it is normal for some to want to sleep late, just like people, as long as you know you have all your other factors correct then I would not worry.
Thanks ShannyBeard!! I do believe Hugo would sleep until noon, if I let him. When I uncover him, he is all flatten out with his eyes open. Oh, and that look that I get..LOL!! I just pick him up and set him on the basking spot. Such a lazy boy!!!
LOL that sounds like Scarlet. Man, some of our dragons are up and awake and ready for the day, then we have the sleepy heads. :| I like to make sure they are all up and eating before I go to work, so I make sure to get their lazy butts up. On the weekends, I will often let them sleep in one or both days depending on what I have going on. I figure if they really and truly love to sleep, I should let them once a week.
