leopard gecko died

so i have had a albino leo for a little while now, prob around 6-8 months now. i have his cage set up fairly simple in a 20 gal tank, a hide on each side, water bowl, food dish, under tank heater , retile carpet stuff , a digi thermometer on each side.i had the UTH set on a dimmer switch thing so i could set the temp to suggested temp. so now that you have the tank set up i was feeding it these freeze dried fruit flys and mealworms. and i often wold catch him eating and drinking so i know that wasnt the prob. but i was on vaction for a few weeks and my mom was taking care of him (she read a bunch of care guides and we went over everything before u left) and she called me 2 days ago and told me that when she went in to do her daily check he wasjust laying out in the open against the front of the tank, and when she checked he was dead.... i got home today and looked over the tank an it the temps all look right and i just cant figure it out. my mom said he was active at night running around every night until he passed. what could have happened??

Hmm. Are you sure that freeze-dried fruit flies are good for leos? How often have you cleaned the cage? How deep was the water in his water bowl and how big was the water bowl? Did you give him vitamin/mineral powder? Did he have impaction? Those are some questions that came to my mind.
I am really very sorry for your loss.

I am very sorry for your loss. I know first hand how it feels. I had my leopard gecko Spotty for 6 years. He died of old age. He was my best friend. I still feel like it's my fault. So I knw how you must be feeling. I'm so sorry. My best wishes to you.
