I'm leaving for a week in June, it's a 6 hour trip with stops for restroom. Well, if I don't have anyone to take care of Camilla, what will I need to take in order to have a nice ride and for her to stay for a week? I obviously can't take her big tank and my lamps don't have the clips to hang them on the side of something. Any recommendations on what to take for the car trip plus the week we are there?? Like what should I take to keep her in? How do I keep the crickets alive that long ?? How do I keep her warm for 6+ hours? What do I do if she poops in the car since we are leaving at 6am? General things ☺
A 6 hour ride shouldn't be a big deal at all. I would get a car carrier like this one which you can also use as housing for overnight https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EW2WKZU/ These can clip to a seatbelt to secure them well. I would also bring some paper towels, vinegar spray, and sanitizer spray and some small plastic bags in case she poops in the car. If you don't feed her before the trip it should be OK though. How old is she? If she is an adult she'll be fine for a week with just some salad. Ziploc bags with a fold of paper towel is great for holding greens and other veges. Just keep those in a cooler. If she is younger and needs bugs I'd bring a big pack of black soldier fly larvae. They are much easier to keep on a road trip than crickets.
If you want to keep her in an enclosure while you're traveling you could use a big clear plastic bin or a childs playpen. Just be careful to get a playpen that doesn't have mesh going all the way down the sides because they can just climb out easily. Those are nice because they are collapsable for storage while driving. Otherwise you can just use the carrier as housing and set the lamp up in an enclosed room for her.
Thank you! All of that is really helpful. When I got her, I was told that she was 7 months so now she is probably about 9 months old. She eats more insects and is a little picky when eating a lot of veggies. She eats a lot of crickets in one sitting, so with the fly larvae, how much would I get for a week?
She usually poops towards the afternoon, and I feed her some veggies throughout the day then crickets at night. I may try to get her to poop before we go by giving her a bath.
