I have read that solitary females can lay infertile eggs. And that if they do not have a suitable place they will retain the eggs and get sick.
So I made a boxwith a ramp and a cutout with playsand so Rocky can lay her eggs in, if she needs to.
But she seems to be leary of anything new ion her tank and will not go near it.
I have placed her in it so she can get accustomed to it but she comes out and avoids it.
Will she use it on her own if needed?
Her tank's floor is tile and I catch her trying to dig in the corners sometimes.
After putting her in the box with the cover off a few times, she got accustomed to it AND started to go in on her own. So I put he cover on and put her in thru the door a few times. Now she goes in on here own.
What should I be looking for?
Will she just go in, lay eggs and come out?
How long does it take for her on average to lay eggs?
Will I easily see them when I lift the cover?
she will bury them.they will be about the size of a robins egg.she will be very thirsty & hungry after give her anice warm soak & feed her well w/ extra calcium.Remove eggs & throw them away if you are sure they are not fertile.I put mine in abag in freeezer till garbage day so she would not smell
them she will be much thinner after laying.you will probly hear her digging alot in box.The first time it took about an hour ...the next three times took about 2 hours.
Good Luck! Malibu laid 78 infertile eggs from july-sept about 20 days apart
