I thought my female beardie might be digging around because she wants to lay some eggs so i made her a laybox in her enclosure (vermiculite and soil). yesterday while i was at work she climbed into it, pooped, and then went back out i guess. it's been about half a week with the laybox around and no other action yet.
when i took her to the vet about half a week ago i found out she had a parasite, hmm i forget the name now but it was a small number of <something> eggs. she had one dose of medicine then and will have another 2 weeks after the first.
i'm worried that the entire laybox is ruined now because she pooped in it, what do you guys think? is there someway to salvage it, or do i need to throw it all out completely? =/
I would suggest replacing the contents of the laybox after sanitizing it. If you have something that you can let her lay in outside of her cage that would be good. I always let my female lay in a 10 gal tank filled about 3/4 with moistened sand. My female would usually defecate more than normal right before laying the eggs. If there is nothing inside her enclosure for her to dig in then she will become restless and act like she is trying to get out. That is when you put her in a laybox and she will probably start digging right away. If she is gravid, then you should be able to feel the eggs in her a few days before she is ready to lay.
