Hey :) How do you keep dubias warm? Is it better to use something in the bin or wrap an electric blanket around? It sometimes gets extremely cold in my house during winter. Also, is there something better than the egg crate stuff? I can't stand the smell of them. Thanks :D

There are several methods of keeping them warm. Some people use an under tank heater (UTH), some use heat flex tape, and still others use a human heating pad. I like the human heating pad. As far as the "smell" of the egg crates... they shouldn't smell. When did you change them last? I know for keeping crickets they will stink like there is no tomorrow, but not for dubia.

I tried the heating pad route, myself. Beware! Not all heating pads are created equal. Most of the newer ones have a shut-off function once they reach a certain temp and then THEY WON"T TURN BACK ON once they cool down. It's not a thermostat, it's a shutoff switch.

Just be sure what kind you are getting or you may have some cold roaches!

The egg crate stuff I use is normally fresh from 5 dozen eggs. And they normally stink right off the bat. It might just be the natural smell of them. I don't know. lol The cricket ones get swapped on a regular basis.
