We adopted a sweet, beautiful, 18 mo old bearded dragon named Katie today! She's an early Christmas present for my ten year old daughter. We've talked about it and researched bearded dragons for a couple years and I finally gave in. This kinda fell into our laps; I hate when people get rid of pets! But she's home with us now.
I'm sure I'll have lots of questions. My daughter played with her most of the day today and she's as sweet and calm and alert as you can imagine. She doesn't seem anxious or stressed out about being moved around...she hasn't eaten today, though (although she might've eaten some early before we got her as they did have food in her dish).
I'm thrilled we found her because the idea of getting a baby, starting from scratch, learning what we needed and what to do intimidated me. But Katie really seems to have been well taken care of in spite of being put up for "adoption" (we're her third home, so sad). They were very helpful and gave us all her stuff and explained to me her feeding, her schedule, etc. But I'll still have bunches of questions, I'm sure!
First question I have is minor, I think...she seems to LOVE my daughter's hair! She has shoulder length hair and every chance she gets, runs right for it. The family we got her from has boys and the mom has short hair (I had mine pulled back today and think I'll keep it that way when I handle Katie). I read online that this might be a sign of fear or aggression...it doesn't seem that way at all, though. A couple of times, she also perched high on my daughter's shoulder and kinda stuck her nose in her ear! Cute...but is that weird!?!? She seems to have so much personality, I wish I knew what she was thinking.
Another minor, I think, question - she's on her rock, reaching up toward the heat light now with her beard all bowed out but it's not black like I've read it becomes...is that just because she's just reaching for the light and not bowed up in some kind of emotion?
She really seems so sweet. I hope I'm not just misreading her...are these normal or weird ways for her to be acting?
