Working on finishing touches of new viv and although I have read through here I just want to be sure what I have is safe before I use it and then find out later it's bad! I went snooping through honey's stuff in the garage and found....
I have DAP silicone 100% silicone rubber sealant and GE Silicone II Paintable Formula. Now the GE doesn't say specifically that it's 100% silicone, but when I was checking them out at Home Depot all the other GE's stated they were.
Also... I want to eventually put tile down but may not be able to do it for a week or two because my hours at work have been cut down again thanks to this economy stuff. The bottom and sides are melamine, is it okay just to have the beardie on that? Money is tight at this second so the best I could do is use the carpet that is in the cage now but it will not fit fully.
Hi there ! I have used the GE, it is indeed 100%. Also, have you gotten the tiles yet ? If not, then just place him inside on the mel, though you might want to put some paper towels down as melamine will allow the poos to puddle, and if he should track through it.....
Now, once you apply the silicone make sure there is a 48 hour cure time, and you can't smell that ammonia smell any longer. This means he can't be in that viv during that time period. I used a stand alone fan to direct the air movement on the tiles when I was curing them.
Hope this helps out !
Janie.
So then I can assume that the DAP is okay to use as well? I will probably end up using the DAP if it is safe because I have more of it and don't want to start using one to then end up using the other anyway.
