Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a long time, over a year to be more exact.
I've had my beardie Grisha(russian household, russian name lol) for the same amount of time and its been great. I just moved him into my room yesterday in order to bond with him more and clipped his nails today for the first time with no problem.
I have a few questions. I don't really like my tank design. I have a big basking branch (http://www.petworldshop.com/pictures/rock-formation.jpg) that is right under the two lamps, but I would like to make a platform. I don't have the materials needed to make the big grouted styrofoam platforms. Would Crayola Air-Dry Clay be safe to use? If not, would a wooden one be okay as long as its made of oak?
Also, I wasn't the best owner the last few months, but I'm changing that now. I just want to check to make sure, does he look healthy?
He looks healthy but his legs are just a tad thin, does he get much exercise? That would help him muscle up.
I don't think I would use the clay unless you could seal it somehow. Anything that is porous can soak up waste. You can use oak, other hardwood or even kiln dried pine to build a platform. Just stay away from cedar or any green wood.
Thanks for the help about the platform! I'll probably end up using wood then, I don't want a stinky clay platform.
He didn't really get out of his cage much before, but over the last few days I've been taking him out and letting him roam around supervised, so hopefully that'll help with the skinny legs!
I have these dried papaya treats that my gerbil doesnt like, would it be safe to feed these to him as small treats every now and again? Not as a staple though, just treats. The ingredients say "Dried papaya and artificial colors."
