Currently here is no spring fever time anymore, but hiding 1 - 2 days per week despite being awake, he does this all year round (brumation is another thing). I've read there are dragons who aren't using caves or hides at all - tell this Taco :D
How Taco signalizes he wants out: As his enclosure opens from the top, he has (quickly) learned I can only get him out* if he's on the branch or climbing wall on the right side (so: front, up). He then goes up there and looks at me. When I then reach in, almost sure he really wants out, i.e. steps up.

*In an emergency, I could get him out from everywhere but might need something to access him. But to "nicely" get him out: Only from "front, up".
The only dragon I've had that used a hide besides for brumation was Ruby. She would sit half in half out. It's rare any of the others would even go in. And if they do they come right back out. Sinatra does like to sit on top of his though.

Some other beardies might try to move in on his turf 😄
Yeees... We always made jokes about how I would be able to sneak in another reptile while holding Taco for 30 seconds in his enclosure :D (When he was about half a year old and checked everything, really everything when he was "taken out" even if "taken out" was just the tiny bit of being on my hand for 30 seconds still in his enclosure.)

He is so super cute and curious. He also knows he can't climb wardrobe and goes right for the towel :)
Yeah, before I hung up the towel, I saw him looking at the wardrobe and having a huge desire to jump on it. Sometimes he would surf along the wardrobe. I wrote earlier that I try to listen to his desires and support his instincts, so I hung up the towel.
First I hung a pink towel, he didn't like it, the peach one didn't inspire confidence either. But the brown towel turned out to be just right. Plus it has a small pile and his claws don't get tangled when he jumps off it.
Now it's his favorite pastime. :D

Funny, I wonder what's up with those other colors and how he perceives them....
You are doing a great job caring for him and listening to his desires.

I think the brown color of the towel is similar to the color of the tree bark. So I tried this color and it worked.
I try to support his curiosity, I think it is important and his activity depends on it.
When Foxy came to us, I decided that he should not be bored and I try to stick to this plan and not limit his desires.

Taco also is especially curious about things that look (vaguely) like something in his enclosure. I think because these things look "common" and "like at home", "can use it". E.g. next to my husband's desk there is a grey shelf, about 1 m high, divided into small 25 cm cubes. He always tries climbing there. Similar to the climbing background with niches and caves built-in in his enclosure.
For Taco's seat by the window, I used a thick wooden branch - also something he knows.

Yup sounds like Taco has about the same ability as my guys. If I'm there to supervise them I let go anywhere except the bathrooms. But I watch them like a hawk if Christina is home. She nearly stepped on Sinatra a few days ago coming in from the patio. I was yelling full voice but she gets so in her own head she has Zero situational awareness. I ended up rushing toward her which scared her and caused her to stop moving. If I hadn't been there she would have stepped on him. It scared her even more when she realized why I seemily charged at her. But she is always like that so I have to be extra careful 🙄 😒 😕
She sounds kind of like me...though when I have Mirage out it helps me get out of my own head :)

It seems to me that color plays a huge role in recognizing objects for dragons. Much more than for humans. For example, we have a green plastic basin and when Foxy saw it, he tried to walk through the basin. At first I thought that he did not see this color. But then I realized - the basin is green and this is the reason. Foxy simply perceived it as a thicket of grass and tried to simply walk through this "bush of grass".

Same here, I have a wall in the office painted in green. They are both a little obsessed with it, running at it and trying to climb it...
