Jumped off my shoulder

Hello, I am new to dragon keeping. I have an 8 to 9-inch bearded dragon I've had him for probably three months now. He just now had his first really big shed and I was planning on cleaning out his cage because it's full of shed and calcium dust. I got him out and put him on my shoulder because I'm home alone my wife works the day shift during the week I work the night shift during the weekend. He seemed fine on my shoulder was just kind of exploring around my hoodie then he came down to my arm which was about chest height, then he leapt off my arm onto the floor. My floor is carpet and he landed flat on his belly immediately started rushing around the room. I scooped him up and was trying to hold him to see if I could notice anything wrong he dropped again from about waist high. This time he sort of tumbled I picked him up and put him back in his Viv immediately. He went to hide in his little shrubbery and hide. He wouldn't come out until I moved him. At first, his beard and belly were very dark now that he is sitting in his basking light his beard and belly are almost completely white and he is looking at me but he's still flat on his belly in his hammock. Are there any suggestions from anyone as to what I need to look for right now and in the future before I take him straight to the vet and spend lots of money?

Update I got him to walk around his hammock for a few seconds he's supporting himself with his back legs now. I don't notice any swelling around his spine or hips or any weird bulges on his belly.

He looks ok -- keep watch for black bearding - that would be a sign of distress or pain -- please keep your hand at all times on his back when transporting him anywhere out side of his tank - we have so many disasters w/ them falling or jumping --- also the hammock is that a basking decor piece if so how are you getting temps off of it? NO stick ons those are ambient temps only and NO IR guns they cannot read off of them -- digital probe thermometers are best for accurate actual temps -- what are you using for a UVB? NO coils please they are inadequate-- you want a long tube fixture like a 24" for a 40+ gallon tank Zoo Med w/a Reptisun 10.0 T 5 or a Arcadia Pro T 5 w/ a 12% bulb or a Sunblaster Nano Tech 6400 bulb -- if you need more help please ask they have certain placement and distance they need to be depending on your screen

he has a digital probe thermometer right under his basking lamp. Right now I have an all-in-one bulb from zoo-med. I plan on getting him a tube light very soon. He is currently moving around his Viv hunting the crickets I dropped in there. He seems to be fine but I will keep watching for swelling or weird behavior.

What is the wattage- your basking surface temp and uvb is extremely important- the probe needs to be placed on the spot where he sits for basking- is the mvb a coil?

How is the dragon doing? The long tube is what brand and what bulb? Your screen looks to be a wide hole type of screen-- if its a a T 5 or a T 8 is going to make a difference where it needs to be placed and distance for it to be effective so this is imperative --- look on the bulb itself it will tell your the brand and the bulb look for the T 5 or T 8 please-- and how old is the bulb they both have a expiration time

Ok please get the T 8 inside the tank and replace that bulb w/ a Reptisun 10.0 T 8 they are a way better bulb --- after replacing the bulb please LEAVE the cover off the fixture --- distance for the UVB is 6-8 inches directly over the basking decor -- please do this ASAP-- if the UVB is on top of the screen shes not getting any UVB -- the screen will block 30% of those rays --- I would recommend upgrading your UVB to a 24" fixture T 5 I can help w/ that and I would do it in the next few months your going to need to replace the T 8 in about 5 months -- I can post links for those fixtures for you --

i ve been looking at Zenn habitat and ReptileKages. they are all very pricey not sure whats best
Zen Habitats are good I have two of them -- only thing I dont like is the acrylic doors but you can get glass if you like - I have the PVC ones - ReptileKages I dont know anyone that uses them -- Carolina Cages are known on this forum - I dont like the way they have the fixtures for UVB mounted w/ the basking bulb attached to it --- if you need to move it you really cant and thats not good for basking temps -- here are pics of the tank
