Hello,

I think the herb, Crataegutt is safe, but be sure he doesn't get too much. As Sue had mentioned, reptiles' metabolism is slower & more specialized so it takes longer for medications to circulate & flush out of the system.
I would like to see the Uric acid levels lower though but it isn't renal failure though. The AST is out of range so his liver may be having some trouble. You might want to consider getting him on some milk thistle to help with liver function.
What type of diet is he on? You are syringe feeding him right now?
I hope he starts to feel better!

Tanks a lot for your reply Tracie, I will see if I can get my hands on some milk thistle although I'm not sure were to look for it. Is this something they have at a pharmacy?

Yes, I was giving him carott-baby-food until Monday. Now I blend some Arugula and field-lettuce with some pumpkin to get him some more nutrients. He seems to like it but he still has diarrhea almost every day now. He gets really bright and looks happy after I feed him.
He still climbs on my shoulder on his own, when I take him out but he is very weak and his eyes are sleepy.

The diarrhea might be from the pumpkin..it does have a laxative effect and a lot of us use it to help them go when they havent gone in awhile. The pumpkin is nutritious, as are the other squashes. Also, if his diet is mainly or all liquid or puree, thats what his stools will look like. When you say diarrhea, is his stool just loose or is it watery? How many times a day does he go? The arugula is an excellent choice too, full of vitamins and nutrients.

Tracie is spot on with the milk thistle assisting liver function but please use caution combining it with the crataegutt; sometimes herbs can interact with each other. I looked it up but there is really no data either way on any possible interactions. Did the vet give you a time frame on how long to use the crataegutt, or does he want him on it for the long term?

The urate is kind of solid, everything else is liquid (like dark water really).

The vet told me to give the Crataegutt every day for now. He didn't say how long, because Luis was initially supposed to be off his meds now but the labs came back worse than before (as seen above).
For now I'll continue the Crataegutt and give him the mix of greens and pumpkin I mentioned and also lots of water. I don't know what else I can do at this point....

Hello,

You are very welcome. I am not sure what form you would find the milk thistle in, at a pharmacy, probably capsules. They could possibly have a liquid formula perhaps. As Sue mentioned, it is always best to err on
the side of caution when using various herbs, etc.
Reptiles have unique metabolism & things stay in their
system longer than in mammals.
That's good to hear he likes the foods. It may be watery so that is probably causing the looser stools.
Is he getting enough calcium daily?
Let us know how he is doing.

He looked really tired when I came home yesterday. He was sleeping on the ground and he usually is never on the ground, always on some branch.
I'll mix some calcium into the mixture every other day as well. After feeding, he looked not too bad and basked for the rest of the evening.

He used to headbob and chase Lilly around when they are both out. Not yesterday, he stayed on my shoulder and Lilly didn't run, she climbed up to him as well and licked his cheek. She seems to know he is not feeling well, it was amazing to watch...

Conventional wisdom is thst they are solitary and antisocial with one another. Everything I've seen out of mine tells me that that is dead wrong. I would never co-hab them, but I've seen mine seek out each other and snuggle in to sleep together so many times I call B.S.
So I'm my opinion Lily is absolutely trying to show compassion to Lius.

Yes. Like: How many people would not like to e.g. live in a shared apartment with people they in fact get along with just fine and enjoy meeting friends from time to time and care?

@Chris.
I have read about Luis' health concerns, but didn't post yet as I can't help out with this. I hope he gets better soon!

Thank you, that is very much appreciated. It might not be in my hands anymore but as long as he is fighting, I am too.

Hello,

I agree, it is good he is still fighting, she is very attune to him not feeling well. They are mostly solitary but
can sometimes become drawn to another one such as
this situation.
Keep working with him, & be sure he is a little warmer
overnight, to help boost his system.
Let us know how he is doing.

I just saw your thread.
I'm very upset, I like Luis so much, he's a very characterful guy.😦
I don't know what advice I can give you, because my experience is clearly not enough, but I'm absolutely sure that your conditions for Luis are great and you are doing everything to make him get better, so please don't blame yourself.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that Luis gets better.

Thank you a lot. He is looking a bit better but he lost weight and seems to be walking a little uncoordinated.

I have been very critical of greens lately.
As soon as I started keeping locusts, I realized that half of the greens in the shops contain unacceptably high levels of nitrates. This becomes obvious when half of the locusts die the next day. Locusts have a very sensitive digestive system. After that, I got a list of suppliers of safe greens. I don't know how things are with this in Germany, but maybe this will help somehow.

Just a small update on Luis.
The good thing is, he is still kicking and I feel like he is moving a little more.
The bad thing is that he still has zero interest in food and he is still loosing weight.

Thanks again everyone for taking the time and keeping your fingers crossed for Luis.
